Thread: Age of Conan

    Default Age of Conan

Was bored with WoW and was thinking of trying this game out.

I've heard that it has improved a lot since release, so although I have read the old posts regarding this game, I am not sure that the criticisms still apply.

Anyone playing this that has any insight to share?

After I ditched WOW for AOC when it first came out I was so excited. Then met with the crushing disappointment of how unfinished the game was and lack of quests.

Everyone felt pretty duped/cheated and people left the game in droves angry. Myself and many like me swore we'd never buy another Funcom game again and know I won't!

They even still send me letters since I quit the game begging to come back. From what I heard from people and other MMO websites not much has changed. They've applied bandaids to gushing wounds and a lot of bugs still lingering since day 1 are there.

Even more ridiculous was them doing/working on an expansion which is now out while the core game was an array of misguided ideas and bugs. We players felt it was a big slap in the face.

They withheld the free trials forever if they even came into existence. Maybe check if they have a free trial these days- if not then I'd take that as a sign things haven't changed much.

You want a really good game that's very underrated. Lord of the Rings Online is fantastic and has a free 15 day trial no strings attached.

I recently tried it out again. The bitches and gripes from the previous thread are quite true and I'd agree.
They have fixed alot of the bugs and the game runs alot smoother than it did. However, if you do not have a maxed level character it's going to be a long, slow grind to max level. I found it painfully boring and went maybe 5-7 more leevels before I decided I actually had more fun running UK into triple digits worth of runs.

You got me curious and it's been a while since II check out the AOC forums. With a little light reading in their general section you can see there are many problems still around. One being as mentioned above it takes on par of months-year to even get 1 piece of tier gear at max level.

And it looks like it is still a very painful leveling process. I'm still having nightmares of boredom thinking about some of those long grinds.

But yeah read their forums if you want a good idea. Mind you their forums are heavily heavily monitored/moderated/edited and most negative things are deleted. There's just so much negativitiy they can't get them all.

I played 2 months on release, then another 2 months after their "free level 50" winback promo last October. Played 2 characters up to max level (HoX and Bear Shaman.)

It's a fun game. It's well made, the combat is interesting, the classes are quite unique, and the story is very interesting.

However the engine is pretty bad. Tons of bugs, crashes, patching issues, etc. End game was pretty boring, loot was pretty boring. I liked the crafting system after the revamp, but the interface was a big meh.

It's worth the first month or two ($9.99 list price, on Amazon new for like $5), but don't expect it to be an MMO you feel like sticking with for a year+.

    It's really bad.

No end game. No strategy. PVP is really lame, even though it was supposed to blow away wow.

Thanks for the feedback. Glad I didn't waste too much time with AoC.

I guess I should have taken it as a bad sign that I was falling asleep in the starter zone.

AoC was a bore sadly. It is an MMO that is seemingly staying alive by the skin of its teets.

    LOL.

Man I remember when I first got the game and there was lots of bare breasts. Then in less than a month they'd censored them all out to the outrage of the players. This was just one move trying to 'clean up' the game that angered what remaining players they had left. Most everyone had left their previous MMO for this so called adult MMO.

Looks like the blue balls won if the teets are back in. The first few days were funny with legions of topless females everywhere you looked. Short lived. Was an amazing thing to see an MMO going from millions of players to a handful in a little over a month.

You mean like... nearly every MMO ever besides EQ and WoW? AoC, WAR, and Aion are the only 3 besides WoW I've played, and they all became ghost towns after the first couple months.
