Look at this ticket I had. Clearly Support is just not supportive of multiple account activity (edit: on the same machine)

Hello,

Thanks for contacting Blizzard Technical Support, my name is Jon. I see you are having pathing issues with multiple instances of World of Warcraft open on a single computer. Unfortunately we are only able to support one instance of the game running on a single computer at a time. The most I could do is recommend that you close the second instance of the game and run only a single one at a time.

I have heard that multiples instances of the game is possible however. If you wish to find more assistance with this I would recommend asking advice from other players on our technical support forum:

Subject: Pathing Issue

Hi guys and gals, I recently ran into this problem since yesterday and
contacted a GM.

GM Vulpiraux (Steamwheedle Cartel)-US sent me to you for this issue.
I've never had an issue with auto follow before, and using no addons or
crazy things.

I've got one computer built for three accounts, upgradable to 5, so it's a
fine machine. I've only got two accounts at the moment.

Main=1st account character
Second=2nd account character

Auto follow: Pathing algorithm (or issue) for Second cannot be resolved when
following Main, when in maximized windowed mode and not the active screen.

Will disconnect if path is not found.
(For instance: When Main begins moving the opposite direction, Second looks
left, then right, quickly and spasmodically as a frightened squirrel in the
path of an oncoming 18 wheeler. He then will disconnect after 2-3 seconds.
It's actually kind of funny to watch but I'd prefer not to.

Or Second decides it would be best to make a wide swing out, and go bloody
his nose all over the nearest wall, or into the nearest mine shaft of
endless doom... Or go make friends with the dark iron dwarves and ask them
why they're such damn meanies. At least he won't disconnect, but I have to
clean up the mess.)

Only so far affects indoor or closed in areas.

When Second's window is suddenly active, the pathing is corrected.
Second's window minimized *instead* of Alt-Tabbed (or clicking the tab) when
switching to Main is a step that resolves this issue at the moment, but it
is a step I've never had to perform in the past. Which is why I felt this
was a concern to be addressed.

Main and Second have shown to be interchangable and still display the
pathing issue.

Briefly: "A windowed and not currently active wow screen on a second
account, same computer, has pathing issues where it didn't have problems
before. Second character cannot follow correctly and will have trouble
deciding the best way to follow the first character until it finally
disconnects."

Thanks for your continued support! !
