Default Making a Paladin, but I already have one waiting! What to do!?

Hey there, ok, so here's the story...

I have a prot pally alt, pretty decently geared, sitting at level 31 atm.
Better gear than I'll probably get through 5-boxing.

Anyways, I'm starting my 5box team with a prot pally for a tank...
(2 warlocks and mage for dps, 1 druid for heals, btw)

I'd hate to just let all that nice prot gear go to waste...
Do I just use him to help my group level up to his level?
Do I just forget about him (i'd really rather not. =\)
Do I just level up without a tank till 31, using a 5th DPS instead?

I can't decide... Like I said, I'd hate to let all the nice prot gear I've bought/made etc for him go to waste, but once I hit 17 or so I plan on instancing thru.. well, for a long time...

    Any ideas? =(

    Thanks,
    -MB

/sigh... I suppose so... but it just seems like such a waste.. =(

due to: the semi-twinking it has gone through...
the awesome pally tanking shield from gnomer
my nice enchants and boe blues. Dx

i know what i'm going to hear, but i don't want to! lol...

You can just start another dps in the slot of the pally until the other 4 catches up in levels.

Then drop that dps until level 26 (31 - 5) so when you do instances, your pally tank is higher than the other 4, but all would get great exp.

So if you drop the 5th level 26, it wont be twinked, not have much sentimental investment over the paladin tank. Or level the 5th to 29 as a booster for your next reroll--a hunter or warlock maybe. It might be great for lowbie bg too.

=) Well, I know I pushed you into agreeing with me ( ) but thanks. =) Good idea.

*segue*. I want to start instancing at 17 or so... I'm not too familiar with 5-boxing, so maybe you know (if you don't mind enlightening me).

If I make another DPS (say, a mage) would it be possible to do VC without a tank, considering I'll have 4 casters Focus Firing? I've never had a group that could do this, so I really don't know from experience...

Do you have a 70? Something that can run 4 characters through an instance quickly? Use that to level the others to 31, then add your prot pally back in.

I used my 70 druid to run my 4 shammies to level 25, where I had a warrior waiting. I then ran with the warrior up to 45, where my prot pally was waiting. 45-69 was prot pally + shammies.

Low levels are faster to run than to quest -- at least pre-2.3. Once you get past SM the instances take longer for a 70 to run you through and quest XP is faster.

Both your 1st and your 3rd option are definitely doable.

You really think your current pally will be better geared than one who levels up by grinding instances like WC, SFK, BFD and RFK 3-4 times?

The crafted gear is for the most part inferior to instance loot and greens are usually pretty bad too. On average the best gear comes from instances, either rare blue drops or blue boss loot.

This character hit 17, respecced prot, then leveled via dunegons and nothing but dungeons till 31... exect for a few quests in darkshire for the blue rewards. The only crafted gear is the shining silver breastplate, and maybe the helm? can't remember... Also don't want to give up the current skills.

Anyways, yes, to the previous post, i have a 70 holy priest and rogue... I could easily aoe run on my priest, as it has holynovaftw. I can't decide, though... I want to level up learning how to multibox... I might just make a new paladin (even though my current one has a really neat-o name) and when he hits 31, I'll see who's better geared.

Multiboxing is frustrating 1-20 because there isn't a huge selection of easily accessible quests that don't involve lengthy collections. Your skill set is limited, you learn new skills/rethink you macros every couple hours, and you'll 1-shot anything you come across.

Instancing doesn't get hard until after SM, where strategy starts to come into play a bit. Not much, but a bit. I don't think you're missing much, particularly since you have multiple high level characters, by powering through until your early 30's.

Also a Prot Pally begin to solo aoe pulls well by 35 when you get Blessing of Sanctuary; and I would say this can translate to 2-3 versus elite mobs inside instances.

The way I would approach it is have the pally aoe tank, and have the 4 others help speed up the pulls.

Even if 5-boxing, I wont be pulling more than the efficient "con" level mobs. I try to kill level -2 to +0 of my tank's level, but 3 to 4 at the time.
