    Default Monitor Resolutions

Ok, this question I might be able to find somewhere else, but it's late and I'm lazy.

How are you guys getting such high resolutions on your LCDs?

My old 19" could only support up to 1280x1024 resolution (as per my windows settings), and I figured this was just cause it was old. I just bought a new 21.6" Widescreen LCD and its max resolution in Windows is only 1680x1050!

How are you guys playing warcraft at 1600x1200 and greater?

Do you just set the game to that resolution regardless of what windows or your monitor supports?

    Thanks in advance,

    Lokked

    Higher Resolutions=More expensive/larger monitors.

    24" monitors are mostly 1920 x 1200
    20" monitors are generally 1680 x 1050

People playing with high resolutions have large monitors, just don't ask Xzin about his, it'll make you cry :-(

Yeah that monitor brought a tear to my eye. It's ok for my wife to pay $7500 to have surgery on our cat that's already 12 yrs old, but I can't get a monitor that's pretty much a piece of art for $2k...

LCDs tend to come in these sizes.. some aren't too expensive and most have discounts frequently through Dell. Their lower models have the same resolution and screen size, but usually give up some contrast ratio, response time, and viewing angle for reduced prices.
    1024x768 (standard 4:3 15" & 17")
    1280x1024 (standard 4:3 19" & 17") ~$200 for a 19"
    1600x1200 (standard 4:3 20"-22")
    1440x900 (widescreen 16:10 19" & 17") ~$170 for a 19"
    1680x1050 (widescreen 16:10 20" & 22") ~$215 for a 20"
    1920x1200 (widescreen 16:10 24" & 27") ~$375 for a 24"
    2560x1600 (widescreen 16:10 30") ~$1050 for their original 30" (the new model is $2k)

LCD prices have dropped so much in the last few years. I bought my 24" Dell 3 years ago for just under $1000, and that included a discount. I picked up the $215 20" a few months ago and it's a fantastic monitor for the price. There are plenty of other manufacturers out there with even lower prices - I just used Dell's listing since they have nearly every monitor size available, are of very good quality for LCDs (I believe Samsung and LG make the panels), and aren't outrageously priced.
    Ex-WoW 5-boxer.
    Currently playing:
    Akama [Empire of Orlando]
    Zandantilus - 85 Shaman, Teebow - 85 Paladin, Kodex - 85 Rogue.

Definitely going to 4-box Diablo 3 after testing the beta for how well this would work.
