    Default Star Trek Online ?

Hey there all! I really enjoyed the new Star Trek movie, and just checked out some videos on YouTube

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4HBjpR0XzUE

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uo0o9kKVqDo

I applied to get into the beta. Has anyone else?
I would love to know if this game is boxable!! I will certainly play it if it's boxable or not, but I would love a have a small fleet of ships to fly around
It doesn't really look boxer friendly, but it looks like a TON of fun. (at least for me)

I've heard some Die Hard Trek fans might not like because of some liberties taken w/ the history and whatnot, same kind of bitching I heard about the amazing new movie they released. I've always enjoyed Star Trek but was certainly never a huge fan, (I was a star wars kid hehe) so really any of these new creative liberties the movie/game creators have taken don't bother me one bit. I'm exciting and for sure going to give it a try.

Perhaps if other boxers are interested we could join the same server even if we're not gunna box it, just to see familiar faces/being w/ people of similar interests.

Just a thought! Good day to everyone and have a happy Thanksgiving!

Very pretty! But kind of unappealing to me. Star Trek always seemed so goody-goody. There are no Han Solos in Star Trek.

I wouldn't say that, James T (for Trouble) Kirk. While not a rogue like Solo, he does tend to break rules and get in lots of trouble. Plus he manages to get all the women.

I liked the movie, but wasn't thrilled with the alternate time line gimmick (OK, I was a Star Trek kid and later a Star Wars 20 something).

I'd like to play the game when it comes out (not sure about multi-boxing yet).

Welcome to twenty four oh nine. The war is on.

Seriously, how do they keep a straight face talking about that plot? That guy must really really love Star Trek and I suspect he is fluent in Klingon as well.

Looks like they are taking a lot of the concepts from EvE and trying to add a twitch gaming side to it. Dodging lasers, pew pew pew.

Tanks, DPS and support, ie buff / debuff. Very original. So what do the support ship do solo? I bet you gain levels or experience that you can use to upgrade your crew or ship. I think I will play the free trial when available just for the lols and to name my ship the Borginator or some crap like that.

What the heck is with space-based games and ultra slow movement...stuff moves fast as hell in space, those damn ships could turn on a dime, yet they maneuver like a goodyear blimp with a slow kid at the wheel...

Oh well probably will end up being about the same as Eve for me interesting concept, just not fun to play in the long run.

    lawl slowkid at the wheel.

Yeah, I agree, why can't these people take creative liberties with space flight like they do with the theories of general and special relativity? Please.. no more spaceships with wings and spoilers.. Borg cube is the only way to roll in space. Very convenient and spacious.. I think i missed my calling.

If I was in the beta I couldn't tell you because there's an NDA.

I've _heard_ that it's not boxer friendly, no follow command for example, and the in space interface needs mouse work for optimal use.

The fact that it's an MMO with all the basic features shouldn't be an item of issue. I don't see people complaining that WoW has tanks/DPS/support.

As to movement if you think back to the movies all the space combat scenes are pretty slow (e.g. Wrath of Khan), the ships are big, slow, and meant to evoke a naval feel (torpedoes anyone?), whereas star wars evokes an air combat feel.

Having played EVE a _lot_ I think that STO will rain on EVE's parade from a great height. At the very least it will give EVE some serious competition and get those EVE dev's to up their lazy ass game.

This seems like the most recent thread on the game. Doesn't seem to be much interest around here.

Is there really no autofollow in STO? I haven't been able to get a straight answer from the official forums regarding that.

I really hope Highlander has an MMO, and that it's boxable. The slogan would be There can be only 5!
