Default Next nVidia gpu - GF 100

The latest generation of nVidia GPU is scheduled for release in March 2010, little is known about its performance at this point but it does offer some interesting features such as 3D Surround (nVidias "EyeFinity ").

3D surround will not work on a single GPU but will instead require two GPU's in SLI mode. One GPU will run center + left screen and another the right screen. DisplayPort is not required, normal DVI/HDMI connectors will work.
If your monitor supports 3D you can combine this with 3D-goggles for added visual effects, very awesome.

Im not sure if this is worth waiting for, but since I dont have a choice (I return home in march) Ill be waiting anyway. I dont like multi-gpu solutions, and since this is a brand new feature from nVidia I suppose it will have many bugs that will need to be ironed out.

It also surprises me that one GPU will run the center+left display, it would be much better if there was a dedicated gpu for the side displays. Its in the center display you want the highest fps, not your right-hand display.

When nVidia GF100 Fermi releases in march, the ATI 5000 series will already be 6 months old.

Will the next nVidia-card match ATI 5870 in performance? Will Nvidia's Surround be a real alternative for EyeFinity?

Sorry, I don't want to rebuy three 100Hz monitors for a 3d experience.

If you've been following fermi in any way you'd know this already.

    Two points:
    1. Is there a history here that explains the tone of your post?
    2. What are you talking about?

Nvidia might launch an "TWIMTBP" (The way its meant to be played) and make dubious deals where games are optimized to work best with Nvidia gpu's.

This concerns me, Nvidia might make modern games incompatible with Eyefinity, and only work with nvidia surround.

    I hope this doesnt happen

Im not in the mood for purchasing another 3x new LCD's, maybe in a year or so when they have improved and come with with less bezels.. So I wont have any need for nvidia 3d technology.

    1. No history, just frustration.
    2. Current 3D solutions for the consumer require a 120hz monitor and special glasses/goggles. Also, 3D surround is simply nvidia's reaction to eyefinity, with their own twist/way to make money (nvidia 3d surround certified monitors that cost a boatload, anyone?). Please note the requirement of two gpus in sli for 3d surround (Doesn't have to be fermi) is a grab to keep their current consumer base (who could just buy another one of their current gpus instead having to buy two fermi cards, versus buying one 5XXX series card (or two lower end cards and crossfiring them for less).

Let's not forget nvidia's pricing policy on cards. It's going to start retailing at a very high price point, regardless of actual price/performance/power usage.

Oh, regarding playing across multiple monitors (3+) without a 5XXX card/fermi/SLI'd(identical) cards, it's been done for a long time via solutions such as SoftTH (software triple head) and Matrox TripleHead2Go.

My 8800GT will play across multiple monitors without a 5xxx card/farmi too and without solutions like SoftTH or Matrox TripleSuck2Go.

If you're just not happy with NVidia, hey, that's cool. You might mention that, though, instead of what looks like borderline trolling.

Post revised to clarify multi-monitor gaming in this situation to be with three monitors.

2 Monitor gaming doesnt sound so fun, having your character/weapon/ship or whatever in the middle of two bezels from the two screens.

I used to go with Nvidia exclusively.
Switched to ATI, a couple years back.

For some reason, when I upgraded my system.
    From Q6600, DDR2, and motherboard.
    To Asus P6T, 12gb DDR3, i7 920.
The slaves would periodically (randomly) freeze.
    Replacing parts as an experimentation..
A GTX275 (Nvidia) card, removed this.

ATI seems like a better card for the same cash.
But, my system doesn't like the 4870X2.
The GTX275 runs wow fine on a single monitor (2560x1600).
But I'd like to go with a second 30" monitor.
4 Slaves on one, main on another.
Not sure how a my card will like that.

    5870 vs GF100.. ?
Could care less of Eyefiniti/3D Surround, or DX10.
    EverQuest I: Bard / Enchanter / Druid / Wizard / 2x Magician.
