lol.... Ive always looted sm and strat. I make more then enough for mounts, training and flying skill when I hit BC

I find that is true for the early levels but by the time you get to 60 you have a small profit and all your skills. Only slow mount though.

The lack of funds, is a consideration on a new server or when started.

I fund new teams, with existing teams.
And actually had two accounts, each half full of maximum (70th at the time) level toons prior to getting into 5-boxing... so never really went through the not enough gold thing, at least by the time I started boxing.

I basically give each toon 1,000g when I start them.
So they can loot whatever, but don't actually need to loot at all (aside from quest drops), while leveling.
This, combined with quest rewards, allows them to buy mounts/training up to Slow Flyers.
Once they're done Outland, they have enough gold to pay for their own Cold Flying.
Once they're done Northrend, they have enough gold to pay back my AH toon, with interest.

I crumbled. Once I made it out to Razor Hill, I made a beeline for Ratchet and the boat to BootyBay. In BB my alliance toon could buy a stranegly overpriced minor healing potion.

tradeskill... you have to do herbs/mining/skinning, the low level mats make a lot these days

Better then that is to buy something expensive on the alliance AH and put it up on the netural for 1 silver/copper. Then resell on the horde, that way you lose less to AH cuts
I used to be able to make double my money shipping across Runic Mana pots, and a couple of times 500g profit on Primordial saronites

Just make sure your stuff doesnt get pinched.
