macro input wanted to boost dps (ele shaman)

hi there,

Despite my recent gear upgrades, I'm not improving as i expected. I do improve as a boxer (both pve/pvp & tanking/healing), but not dps wise. Playing wow now for about 3 months and the most spectacular improvement i experienced was swapping my quest greens/blues for the pvp gear you can get from honor. In the last 2 weeks i farmed some easy hc's and got me 4 lvl 232 set pieces with badges (meaning i have the 9 seconds flame shock bonus).

the dps macro i use for my elemental shamans (links to wowarmory to the left - toons are flyingvasco, flyingtrejo and flyingugolin).

I use flametongue on my weapon, totem of wrath & wrath of air totem + blessing of kings buff, almost never bloodlust as i try to save it for when i'm in trouble. I know that my trinkets are not really uptodate but none have dropped so far, nor are all pieces enchanted correctly: either since the piece will be replaced soon with badge gear, there was no proper gem available up on the AH or i don't have the faction rep yet.

I have tried to increase / decrease the amount of comma's, but that was even worse. This clickrate seems to be the least worse. However i don't have a steady one. I find myself often clicking too slow and too fast. Which makes me wonder if the comma trick is the right solution for me.

Anyways it's especially trash that takes ages to kill, not the bosses. After a pack of trash i have about 2.4-2;5k dps. On bosses that might go to 3k. On the orgrimmar hc dummy i can pull 3;6-3.8. Taking into account that trash takes forever to kill, i need to drink a lot inbetween fights as well. What worries me a bit is that my dps is more or less steady since i turned 80. When i hear/see others doing easy 4-5k dps something must be wrong.

So asking for some input, help, advice, .. anything that could help me.

I would find Niley's macro and use that, reset=combat for example should be 'reset=combat/8' for the lavaburst. you want that cast sequence to become available whenever lava burst is up. While you may have a perfect number of commas for when you press the keys, your character might be feared, stunned, incapacitated by some undead dragon, healing the tank or what have you. That will insure that your lava burst is up.

Similarly I would make this a 4 button click macro and time out chain lightning in a similar fashion. While its a very short cooldown, you will be able to see that it is timing perfectly.

On all these I would [harm, nodead] this will make slow turn over mobs not waste button presses. Since those button presses won't actually have cast times associated with them.

I would suspect if you are slow on trash that your not transitioning between mobs right and turnover is slow. At some point you need to switch on the focus unit (tank) to the next trash mob and either let the last mob die from magma death, hammers, ret aura, or chain lightning, etc, most likely one or two of your casters will take its head off with the spells they are already casting and or the next ones during the focustarget lag.

So to be clear, burn down first kill order, just inside the red zone for the mob, switch to next mob and the final spells and effects will clean the first guy off the list and there will be a smooth transition and no problems with a huge 'casters are idle' issue.

You can measure this with 'time idle' in recount. If you have idle time, there is something seriously wrong unless you have a dedicated healer who is just sitting there regening.

That make sense. I forgot about the time to reset your sequence. I have experimented a bit with a hard reset (alt), but most of the time i forgot about it. I indeed had the feeling that my lava burst wasn't *active* enough. When i start combat on the first mob the flame shock + lava burst take away approx 40-50k hp, so that works. But it's the next mobs that take way too long to my idea.

I was doing this already, and the more that my dps worried me.

Anyway, you've been of great help putting me in the right direction. I have spent about an hour doing click test to fine tune my spamrate. I've tried it sober and i've tried it after a smoke (i tend to blow one while playing wow). And i get a very accurate spam rate actually, which surprises me.

I have 4 pieces T9 so Flame Shock is 27 seconds on the target.
spamrate = 5.6 (after a smoke 3.4)
flame shock = 27 (resto in dps mode 18) *5.6 = 151.2 (108)
lava burst = 8 * 5.6 = 44.8
chain lightening = 3.5*5.6 = 19.6

so i came up with

and my dps is balancing around 4k now, which is a major boost. I'll have a look later on on how to properly implement the target / reset conditions tomorrow. For now i want to slaughter some mobs
