    So, why would AMD, the purveyors of EyeFinity, list those passive dongles as "critical for an optimal experience with ATI Eyefinity Technology" if they won't work? Some fine print I'm missing on the manufacturer's site?

    Note where it says if you're only using two monitors, needs passive only.
