Starting WoW new X 5 clients

Hello Everyone,

I started reading these forums about two weeks ago and I am really wanting to give this a shot. I love this game but I have done everything in it from 1-70, to include being a GM of a top rated raiding guild. Right now my intentions are to do a software 5-box setup,those of you using hardware are cringeing at this point I bet. I currently have a full listing of 70's on one account which I intended to break apart and put on separate accounts after playing for 2+ years you tend to get one of everything. Is it wise to try and run instances with 5 different types of characters; using these types of setups I have been reading about Most of you are posting as five or less of the same types of toons. I am not sure who to really talk to on this point but I thought this forum would probably have run through most of the options already.

hardware suggestions are a big plus for me atm becuase i am going to be upgrading a few of my machines very soon.

That computer would likely melt if you tried to run 5 clients on it. RAM is way too little atleast 2gigs is needed (3-4gives better fps) Video card is lacking as well. it will be playable but not much else. Get a decent 8800 series card. And since you will probably have to upgrade your motherboard to do it get a new CPU as well. either AMD or Intel have a working dual core chip that are reasonably close in performance (intel pulls ahead but is a little more expensive). Ya know, you should upgrade your whole computer lol. There are a number of threads regarding computer upgrades so you can check in those to see what people are running.

As for running instances with 5 different accounts, well if you have the right class balance and lots of patience (playing different classes instead of several of the same one is harder to get good at) then you certainly can.

The Q6600 is the Multiboxers chip at the moment :-)
4GB RAM is recommended.
8800GT - recommended

All the other fluff you can alter to your needs, just make sure you get a decent, powerful PSU.

I have the same setup only with 2gigs of ram instead of one. I did successfully launch 5 clients and get them in game, however the window in focus was getting sub 20fps and the unfocused sessions were pulling about 10. This was just in trisfall glades.

Using only 3 clients it was definitely playable for me, I leveled some trials to 10 ish and even ran around undercity a bit. PVP-playable? no way.

This brings me back to the ultimate way to test if your hardware can handle X number of clients. Just go sign up some trial accounts and see how many you can log in, run around and see what its like.

Judging by your current setup I can only guess your power supply is not up to par.. So you might possible need a new one if you plan on getting a new mobo and card.

My last computer was about the same as your just 1.5gigs memory and the card was a 5900ultra and having 2 wows open was a challenge.

Most of the people posting that these "low spec" setups are "ok" are probably still in Azeroth. Outlands is far more graphically intensive. I wouldn't say anything less than 30 FPS on your alts is acceptable for PvP and 60 FPS (Monitor refresh rate) on a main, anything less and you're handicapping yourself by lowering your reaction time.

Additionally, on a lower spec machine, you will inevtiably lose follow a lot more often due to the follow algorithm not executing often enough.

this is so true!

I really love all the responses to the post at the very least this is an active forum. my intendtions of multi boxing are getting there but I was reading a post by Xzin about pulling a wow setup through a network from a single server. would you have to edit the resgister keys to redirect the access of the software or is there a designed program to do this. would be great if i could put the huge files on my file servers.

gah off topic, my brain has the tendancy to spring from one thought to the next in a more than fluid motion at times. (><)

right now i have a 37 priest and the wifes 51 priest. Leveling the lower to 51 before questing killing with the second preist. I have 3 other accounts to use at 70 to fill in the other holes for the group. Basically I get to use the accounts to pvp with and instance with. Friends can be a nice thing to have.

now the plan is to use keyclone to connect the different sites and control all of them from my central home. keep in mind this is all through software emulation. the other PC's that I will be connecting into have a much lower latency than mine does. If that setup doesn't work I will have to slowly build the system for all five accounts to run.
current theory:
pc1-hardware connect/keyclone
pc2-hardware connect/keyclone
pc3-software connect
pc4-software connect
pc5-software connect

so, keeping in mind i want a hardware setup that can support the above account all on one machine, I have recieved suggestions on the graphics and CPU but what about the motherboards and RAM the harddrive speeds.
types and brand names would be a great help. I am looking into using a intel board with their processor. I suspect they would have a perfect marriage between the CPU and the MB considering being made by the same company but that has been wrong in the past. also the harddrives I understand maxtor used to trump western digital for a time but that has been vise versa as well who is producing the best product for this type of operation, maybe another manufacturer altogether. I am asking you guys becuase this is something this site has had going for over a year.

The other thing that has been bugging me is i can't figure out the keymapping side of keyclone. I am trying to tell the secondary window to execute a macro by keybinding in the game. (Example Press UP key = Follow macro). pretty confused on the actually setup of these mappings. Now, I have read the forum posts but it is not makeing it totally clear to me. I learn easier by watching someone then reading it or looking through a step - by - step.


geese wish i could get the answers teleported into the brain but first whoever was doing that whould have to hack at the jumbled mess. thanks for the help as it comes I am looking over most everything that is written.

How do you get 4gig of ram to work with Vista or Xp? are you talking about the x64 version?
