You have the right idea then. For a serious PVP'er and for someone that likes arenas, I would recommend at least a somewhat viable comp from the beginning, or you're going to be severely limited on gear and just running the same BGs over and over. Any team that's arena viable is going to perform very well in BGs, Wintergrasp, and world pvp as well.

Obviously you won't need 2k rating to start gearing up - just being able to hit 1600 or so would get you a ton of gear you wouldn't have access to by just doing AV over and over.
