Default Don't Be dumb like me with Heirlooms

So last week I started a new team. 3 Paladins. I already have 1 paladin and 1 DK at 80. so I went and spent a bunch of badges to get heirlooms and I spent some stone keeper shards to get the 2H pvp sword.

So me over thinking the heirlooms, I bought www.wowhead.com/?item=Champion Herod's Shoulder and www.wowhead.com/?item=Champion's Deathdealer Breastplate thinking I'd have to upgrade to www.wowhead.com/?item=Polished Spaulders of Valor and www.wowhead.com/?item=Polished Breastplate of Valor for another 80 badges later. So ok, not a huge deal, I can farm badges easily enough. So I get all my heirlooms and I get my team going and not 30 minutes into leveling, I see someone run by wearing the plate version at level 5. So of course I inspect and it's the Valor stuff, it automatically scales by level.

So 3 GM tickets and 6 days later the GMs have me all sorted out. It was amusing, on 2 accounts they sent the level 80 80 heroism badges, and on the 3rd account, they sent the lowbie the correct heirlooms.

So moral of the story, heirloom's armor type scales with level too

Sorry but that's pretty funny, I didn't even think about the no plate till 40. I figured they would have it autoscale and left it at that. Glad you got it all worked out. I constantly see leveling plate wearers in leather and cloth, and it reminds me how lucky boxers are that we can farm badges like mad and gear out toons faster than anyone (even heirlooms)

if you get the plate version and want to trade it to a caster later on will it change automatically when you try to equip the item or you have to spend another 80 badges to get the cloth version for the caster?

Let them hate, as long as they fear.

Have to get the cloth version. Simply said you must be able to obtain the proficiency at some level before you can equip it.

Great idea, but sorry no, its more badges, champ seals, or stone keepers for the other versions. Gotta have you grind something, right?

The only heirloom I've bought was leather.
But then again was only planning on shammies and druids, possibly a rogue team, at that point.

I'd probably recommend cloth shoulders and cloth chest heirlooms for the teams.
One of each per account, and then anyone can use them.

Cloth is worthwhile, even on a plate toon, for the experience boost.
With 5x toons, it won't make much difference.
And that way, anyone can wear the things, even your new team of <insert class> that you make spur of the moment, sometime down the road.

Both I and a friend did the same thing. We had no idea the armor type scaled. Live and learn.

This is news to me I am leveling a group of clothies so that is all I purchased I would have made the same mistake myself. A good thing to know.

I bought the mail shoulders and chest for when i levelled my shamy and Hunter,
then instead of buying a new set for my mage/priest, i just told the GM that i didn't think of them when i bought the heirlooms and was wondering if they could change them now,

Couple days later my toons were heirloom-less, and i had a bunch of badges and shards in my mailbox :-)
Saved a fair bit of grinding

I bought the shoulders for my warrior and the shamans. Now they are 80, and i would like to exchange them to the armor classes of my next team i want to level

But they wont do that, wont they?
