You can change the behavior per Mapped Key (Execute a Step when the Hotkey is ____), but if you're typing in the chat window and need to use hotkeys that you have mapped, you should simply disable them. When you're typing that message you don't need your entire team to hit 1,0,7,3,0. This means hitting Shift+Alt+M assuming you used the Quick Setup Wizard. Or you can set that hotkey to Pause if you like.
Yeah, it's hard to hit saM every time I need to chat if I'm grouping with someone else (I 3-box) and need to tell them something really quick . I also have a terrible habit of forgetting to turn off mapping when chatting in guild, and my slaves end up doing a happy little totem and thunderstorm dance .

Still, thanks for the reply. What do you suggest regarding the backspace assist binding? Wouldn't I get even worse garbling if I bound to something different? Or do you reckon that binding to, say, ctrl-] would help?
