So for kicks this morning I geared my other lock (Dailyauction) in the t9 4 pieces identical to Darkpowerz and even though his hit is now way less, he was keeping up with Darkpowerz in dps.
So now I am wondering, is recount working correctly OR more likely, is there something weird with the rotation of the two toons, the only difference with the two toons is that Darkpowerz does Curse of the Elements and Dailyauction does Curse of Agony.
One last point is that I did DTK this morning and even though recount was giving me actually lower numbers than before in the fights, I really nuked it, all 4 bosses went down much easier than before with each one showing a drop of 15 - 20 seconds in the fight times (best indicators were first boss and last boss due to being totally tank and spank nuke fest with no movement, just spam)
All very strange!!

I try not to rely on recount or dps meters they seem to be very unreliable. What I do use them for is to verify that everyone is doing consistent damage and that no one toon is falling too far behind the rest.
Like your last experience in DTK I rely more on how it feels. Do the instances run smoother, less wipes, faster pulls, less stress. Are the bosses going down faster..... A much better performance matrix for me.....

Dont use a dps meter for heroics. Things die way too fast for some classes to ramp up to their steady dps or some classes have high burst only to fall behind once the fight progresses. My mage only has okish dps on trash because he is still ramping up his Arcane Blast when the last mob dies. Bosses he shines though.

But I would think if both Locks are exactly the same spec except one being human and the other gnome then the damage meter would give the same result?

any damage meter that is not a static fight (no movement) and not over 2 mins is not going to be accurate. I can have one shaman more than 1k dps above the others in a 30secs fight. It's just the random nature of things.

I suppose it makes sense with crits being something that is random
