2Boxing Cord Solution

I've been looking around and have been unable to find a good 2box solution for plugging in a mouse and keyboard to 2 different computers.

So after some digging I found all the peices it would take to do it the hard way and I was wondering if anyone had any input.

The set up would look like this


KB/Mouse-->F2 to M1 SpliceA --> F/F Adaptor --> M1 to F2 SpliceB--> M/M Cord >USB Adaptor

Almost certainly not.

I initailly went down a similar route but soldered my wires up from connectors and wires. I was lucky apparently that when I connected it all up I didn't blow up one or both of my PCs...

Mine was slightly different as I used USB -> USB rather than PS/2 -> USB. But I doubt that that changes things much.

Why not simple wireless keyb/mouse chained to one receiver?

You could get a 4 Port Vetra also.

Vetras are fucking awesome.

Well I disscussed this with a friend who is a hardware person, he reckoned that without a logic circuit in the system somewhere you risk blowing part of the USB on the motherboard. I figured to try it because if anything each would be recieving half the voltage rather than twice...

It didn't blow my PCs or work, which if you follow the basic idea it should have. :?

Short Version: I'm cheap lol and it's really just a stopgap measure to get me through until my new computer is spiffy and rolling.

I don't know the exact terminology and I only glanced at your links but if your doing what I think your doing this might give you an idea to the problem.

A keyboard uses around 5v (I believe it varies from 4.5 - 5.5 volts) to :

A) Power the keyboard (LED's etc).
B) Send the key press signals from the keyboard to the pc.

In very simple terms, if you connect 2 PC's to one keyboard directly you will be sending twice the voltage to the keyboard and also risk 1 pc sending 5 volts directly into the other pc.

They may only be small figures but something receiving an extra 5 volts can cause damage

EDIT:

My current workings are based on general theory and experimentation and eventually I hope to make my own vetra box. The methodology I believe involves sucking out the power sent from the pc to the keyboards via some basic circuit and then introducing an additional power source into another circuit which then controls the signal/power being sent to/from the keyboard and back to the pcs.

Of course I really don't have time to explain my current works in full until I get it working but one day I will add a home made multiplexer solution (I'm sure).

just splicing wires like that without any kind of control circuit risks shorting things. which can be as good as it simply doesnt work, to fried ports, to fried motherboards.
