Default Possible to upgrade my ram and hdd?

The specs for my laptop is in my sig, and according to the info on newegg, it can only support up to 4gigs of ram, but I'm running Vista Ultimate 64bit. I'm pretty sure it's not possible, but does anyone know from experience if I'd be able to replace the two 2gig sticks it came with with two 4gig sticks to up it to 8gigs? 6gigs even? I priced the rams for it and the prices ain't so bad if I can upgrade it. Plus, it doesn't state how fast my harddrive speed is. Is it possible for me to find out any other way other than calling Acer themselves? I'd like to upgrade this to a 7200rpm drive if it's only 5400 also.

It depends on the motherboard (or lap top equivalent).

Some boards cannot handle larger chips.
And you will physically have only so many slots on the board.

    Calling them is an option.
But if you have technical specs on the lap top, such as the actual (model number) motherboard inside, I'm sure you could google to look it up.

Laptop memory can be problematic. Hard drives on the other hand are generally replaceable (a good thing too, since they have proportionally high failure rates).

Thanks Ualaa, I'll check that out later. Do they make SSD drives small enough for laptops yet btw? So far, Newegg.com doesn't have any for sale if they do, but then they don't offer everything.

There are plenty of 2.5" aspect SSDs. The ones that I would run a system off full-time are pricey (~$1k+) so I wouldn't recommend going that route unless your laptop has space for two drives.

actually, yes, it does have an extra slot for a second hard drive. found that out today when i opened it up to clean the dust out of it. if i do get an ssd drive, it'll only be for WoW, maybe a few other games if i can squeeze them on there too, but mostly for WoW if it will improve my loading speed and help with fps. i read elsewhere that your not supposed to install any OS to an ssd cause it causes many problems and crash.

I would go to the Asus website and get the info on which SSD they recommend/sell and go to Newegg from there. It will make a huge difference, at least on mine it has a 5400 rpm HD.
