Does anyone know: is there a way to change the order the 'toons appear on the character selection screen (the first screen after logging in)?

At this time there is no way to do that.
I plan to make a suggestion to blizzard about it though.

The question was asked at Blizzcon 2009 at one of the WoW panels. The Blizzard team said it was something that they've been asked about a lot and have been thinking about perhaps implementing that option in the future. No real specifics though.
Ah, well i'll have to do a search then to see if my take on it has been said before.
