[AUS $$] Intel vs AMD Build

I am looking to build a new computer because I am finally in an area where I can afford to start upgrading.

Right now, I am stuck on which route to go.
The infamous, Intel vs AMD.

AMD is cheaper, so I can splurge a bit more on peripherals and such.
Intel seems better for overclocking.

But I Am still on the crossroads.

This will be my 3rd build, and I am looking for a "Bang for my Buck" type deal.
I started my first build with the AMD Athlon X2. Then the Intel q6600.

Oh and also, what are some reputable vendors based in Australia in which I can buy from for a decent price?

I am from the US originally, where I could use Newegg or Amazon.

Or are there ways of ordering in the US and having everything shipped over seas?

Newegg or Amazon or others.

But shipping would not be cheap.

Built 9 boxes through these guys so far - no problems either on service or price

If MSY doesn't have the parts, umart will have it - possibly the same to $1-$2 more expensive but, for my personal experience, their majorly lack customer services skills (if you want to go corsair psu - you'll have to deal with umart - all mine are corsairs and they are rock solid).

If you do go to umart, make sure you place your order online either instore (there's always a pc for customer to use instore) or from home via setting up an account - the price you see advertised tends to be the internet price - not the store price.

Staticice has a searchable dbase of most 'stores' so you can get something else closer to you if you prefer:

I'd normally also highly recommend checking out the OCAU wiki for suggested builds but, for the first time I can ever remember, it is down atm. Had a few blackouts/power surges last weekend and I can only assume something got frizzled.

These kind of questions should be asked on a reputable site like www.tomshardware.com . If you want answers from experts, that's the place to go. Besides their awesome forums, you can find thorough tests on a lot of pc hardware, and head to head comparison's with actual detailed data for you to look at and decipher for yourself if you don't trust an answer on the forums. They even do a regular "best bang for the buck" pc build article.

Right now an I7 system is the way to go ....


All my stuff is AMD but the Intel 920 on a X58 MB is the win.
