My 96969 macro is both click and not.

The actual macro is a simple 96969 macro, which uses 254 of the 255 characters.

The key I press is on the keybind 1.
This is the master macro, which would normally call each of the castsequences via click.
On my paladin, there is only one macro called via the click.

Anyway, the master macro is similar to this:

/stopmacro [mod]
/startattack
/Click MultiBarBottomRightButton9

So, if I click 1 with any modifier key, the click macro stops at this point.
The modifier key of course doesn't affect my shaman click macros in any way.
So spamming 1, with a mod key, lets me down things at range with casters but without the pally doing anything.
This greatly conserves my mana, instead of casting Holy Shield every 8 seconds, even for mobs dead long before they reach me.

Clicking 1, without a mod key, starts attack immediately.
And calls the 96969 macro, via the /click.
I don't have the characters left in the 96969 to start attack.
But the click has plenty of free characters.
