    Default new to 10 boxing

    Hey guys,

First time posting here and I wanted to get some feedback from some of the veterans out there...

I have been leveling 2 groups of toons preparing them for some 10 boxing action once we hit 80. Here is my group makeup so far.

    Group 1

    Holy Paladin
    2xDestro Warlocks
    Holy Priest
    Fire Mage

    Group 2

    Frost DK
    3x Elemental Shaman
    1x Resto Druid

Is it feasible to do the 10man raid instances with this setup? Will I need to reconfigure the group somewhat in order for it too work?

Currently, both teams are at 72 and I've done Utgarde Keep. Initially, was having problems with Prince Kesseleth but after a few runs the instance is a cake-walk. I'll be moving to Nexus runs pretty soon.

I'm looking to do 10 mans as far as I can go before I start running into problems. I really enjoy the challenge and the ability to do my own instances.

    Thanks,

only issue i see is you only have 1 tank listed. most 10 man encounters are better with or require 2 tanks. unless you meant to type prot pally. other than that i think you've got what you need depending on gear. you may find you want 3 heals though.

Err yea, meant prot pally not Holy paladin...

So I may end up having to convert one of the Shaman to a resto.

You could always practice in Karazhan. Get some 10 man experience, and maybe even some gear upgrades.

You should be fine with only 2 healers, but having a third is a good option. Dual specs helps you out a lot here. I'd dual spec 1, or maybe even 2 shaman resto. And make your DK have a DPS off spec too. Someone's gonna need all that plate DPS gear that drops.

I agree on the practice, I have spent a lot of time doing ZG/MC/BWL/AQ for giggles just to get my off tank, decursing/dispelling and dance moves right. Starting the 10 man raiding when the little guys are sub 60 is sort of fun trying to be johnny on the spot for all of them.

One thing about your group is that cleaning totem is a party wide effect and warlocks eat up that healing pretty massively if they were in the same group.

Wow, thanks for all the advice and help guys!

I think I'll practice in the old worlds first before trying anything major. It sounds like I may have to redistribute some toons to other groups.

Currently, the way my groups are setup is the way i have been running instances. I will probably switch them over to HPAVC's suggestion once I get into the raid thing, as well as switching one of those shaman's over to resto or dual speccing one.

Hopefully I'm not getting carried away here, but I was thinking about adding 2 more shamans in another group for 2 goals:

Goal 1: I can do a 5 man Shaman pvp group in bg's and arena
Goal 2: both Shamans could serve as replacements for other folks in the group if required.

    What do you guys think?

I would have picked two of the same healers and tanks, or made more symmetry between the groups. The DPS are still good to be mixed up if you just make castsequence macros and group similar abilities onto the same buttons, but the tanks and healers should be more in control than what you will end up doing with them as mixed classes. I guess you should practice a lot in Kara and ZA before you do Naxx to see if you can work it out.

My solution to 10 man boxing was to have 2 computers 5 boxing, and each main window was a tank wth its own mouse. Then I push a button to focus one or the other tank, or to split focus, and attack the focus target. And both of my teams are almost the same, so that by doing 5 mans with them I get really good at knowing what they're doing, and then doing 10 mans feels really natural. I tank and heal with different buttons than I DPS with, also. I think you ought to consider that. Try to avoid castrandom macros, as well. Plan it out, don't let the game decide for you.

Using your 3 shaman plus any other DPS in a PVP arena might be a lot better than giving yourself even more characters to gear up. Keep in mind that you can buy PVP gear with badges, and high-end PVE gear is still good in PVP, it's just not ideal because you'll get crit a lot. But it'll be a lot better than taking two blue/green shamans in with you.

Hmm, sounds interesting on both accounts. I guess I can't truly know how I want my group composition to be until I do a few raid instances.

I have 2 very nice comps so the plan was to have 2 seperate keyboards and mice and run 5 accounts on each machine. My goal right now is to hit 80 after that I will do some older raids to try and figure out what works best for my current setup. I'm sure I will have 100 questions after my first raid.

For the PvP side of things, I didn't realize you could buy pvp gear with badges. I have never had a toon at 80. I was under the assumption from some of my research that it's always better to have the least amount of classes in pvp. Having all one class, I figured, was the best route to go. So using, say for instance, 3 Shamans and 2 locks would work as well?
