I'm enjoying STO. I figure I'll play it for 3ish months. I'm kinda an MMO whore though, I play lots of them for a month or so. I'm not a trekkie but I've enjoyed flying around blasting guys. I really like that I can customize all my stuff. equip all my crew members, change their names. It's almost like a single player game actually. I just fly around and do missions, and instead of grouping you have an away team of NPC's. I think it's fun.

See thats just not going to work for me... The away team has to have a guy be sacrificed, anyone that has been a trecky for a long time should know one of them has to die or its just not the same, problem with MMO's you can revive them >< just wont be the same!
On another note Hello Kitty Online Boxing!
Wait did I just type that? What I meant to say I like to see DC Online see if that is going to be better than CO or CoH/CoV. And yeah every review I read on Cryptic is they are craptacular on letting people down on there MMO's since they start up with a good concept and everything then they do something stupid to ruin it.
Daggerspine Alliance: Phoebus(Tank), Soozanuna(Heals/Tailor), Angakak (Enchanter), Wakantanaka(Herb/Alch), Znakharka, Jonhyone(JC), Marious(Other Tank/BS), Magnux(Enchanter), Coyolxhauqui(LW)
It is surprising how Cryptic manage to take what should be a solid gold success and plate it with poop so that it sucks.
There must be one or two people in that place that are both influential and misdirected and that push the dev team into making it crap.
If you take Champions Online as your metric, it may be that they're doing MMO tie-ins with a staff of people who are way more into the MMO than the tie-in. It's important to have those people on staff because that is the game you're making, but it also shouldn't be a reskinned WoW -- a strong comic book or Star Trek feel might not permit some MMO conventions to remain intact. I think Cryptic fails to acknowledge that while the game is indeed god, the source has to have some muscle.
My favorite example is the one that eventually killed CO for me. Half the game is a clumsy attempt at pop culture satire. The fact that the CO writers aren't very good at it is almost beside the point (remember the Anchorman quest? Every step of it felt like it was just lines being parroted by a twelve year-old who doesn't understand the difference between being funny and reciting lines from a funny movie) -- the fact is that comic books generally don't do this. WoW does, though, so we got a ton of questlines, an organization or two and an entire zone based on pop culture references. At that point, never mind the things they got right, because the thing they got wrong constantly reminds me that I'm playing an MMO, not a comic book, and so they lost me.
I haven't played STO and am not a big Trekkie, but there is a lot about Star Trek that isn't supported by MMO conventions, and I expect that Cryptic will not show the proper respect for the source.
MY MINIONS on Lightbringer US: Osaar (80 BE Paladin) - Esaar, Isaar, and Usaar (80 BE Warlocks) - Harmsworth (80 UD Priest)
I did have one thought about STO this morning. The Klingons are pretty much pure PVP AFAIK (haven't played them) and actually have to level up via PVP.
So it should be possible - by running two copies of STO - to win trade your way to high level as Klingons.
I also have a suspicion that within a month or three starting a Klingon will be a nightmare as the high level PVP griefers will make it impossible to progress in PVP at low to medium levels.
So...
I caved in and bought STO. Despite everything I said I just had to give it a try.
Surprisingly I'm actually enjoying playing, levelled a Fed character until I could play Klingon and then started a KDF engineer captain. The Klingon PVP is surprisingly fun so far. I was expecting it to be like EVE where you're outgunned instantly by everyone who started before you.
In fact there's a bunch of 'missions' for PVP that get you going - including one where getting _killed_ gains you XP. I'm not sure how long term enjoyable it will be but I haven't had to grind anything yet adn am nicely on course for Lt Cmdr.
We'll see how it goes.
p.s. Has anyone investigated multiboxing options? Keyclone doesn't work and I won't use a subscription product like Innerspace, are there any other options?
works on Innerspace, why wont you pay for it? It's a solid program with WAY more to offer than the alternatives ( I should point out I am a die-hard Keyclone fan) for a small sub fee. Don't be so obtuse, and explore your options. if you want things done, pay the people who make it happen.p.s. Has anyone investigated multiboxing options?
