I get so paranoid when I read stuff like this. A good thing though, is I got an Authenticator for my accounts.

Its a real shame its "worth" it for the hackers. I hope you get all the stuff back.

I hope to see a re-evaluation of the gold- and trading system in future MMO's. A lot of the gold-sinks could easily be replaced by quest chains (i.e. epic flyers, giant bags, dalaran rings). If the gold-system was made redundant in the end-game (different ways to obtain gems, enchants, potions etc.), that would really solve a lot of the problems involved. Of course it would also take away flavor from the game, so in the end I suppose it's a matter of two ills.

Then only people that want an advantage ingame would steal it .... But it's not only the goldbuyers that can be blamed. The same goes for a lot of *dumb* computer users as well, who are either careless with their passwords or who have little to no security on their system. A few days ago my neighbour signed up for WoW ... he holds a senior financial position in a big company, works often from home. His wife does about the same. What I discovered there stunned me, but unfortunately he is no exception: wifi is unencrypted, he has 1 new laptop with no virus/firewall and 1 desktop running millennium with an outdated norton 2001 or so. Best of all: he does a lot of online purchases and all his banking from that comp ...

If blizzard only wanted to release a native linux version of WoW ... They could cut a deal with a hardware vendor and sell a tailor made laptop with WoW preinstalled, as a secure solution.

i talked to a GM and she (im assuming it was a woman, had a girl character's name) said she would turn everything including my brother's ticket into their investigation department, so hopefully it will get restored, i'm gonna rank him down in the guild so he dosen't have access to do anything but i dunno if i should do it now or wait till the ticket is resolved, just so they can see what he had accss too at the time of the hack.

good thing my second team dosen't need anything at the moment, i would be pissed otherwise, i'l update when it get resolved either way though

Let them hate, as long as they fear.

Yea thats why i have my own guild bank and never let anyone in it. I mean if someone like rl friend wants to run with me thats fine if they want to be in my guild i will keep them in there but they have no access to do anything. Even my alts i keep them all lowbies with no access. I just mail my gleader all the stuff and i put it in and take it out that way.

I know your own accounts. Hey you never know someone could hack one but not the others. Oh and yes i know it sounds assanine but i have 5 different pws atm until i get the authenticater. But due to black friday wow ads putting it off some more lol. More accounts being ready for cataclysm.

Blizzard goes after the sellers of gold.
They do not seem to go after the buyers.

Two of my real life friends, out of seven or eight of us that still play wow, regularly purchase gold from a site. They have never received a suspension or such, or even a warning. One of the two, was dropping $100 a check for over a year, you would think Blizzard would be aware of the gold transaction.

It is just like with the police.
If they solely prosecute the prostitutes, that is one approach.
But if they go after the "John" as well, that changes things a bit.

I bet if either of my friends (or other gold buyers in general) received an email letting them know the gold they had purchased was confiscated and that their accounts were suspended for 30 days for buying gold. And that next time they bought gold Blizzard would permanently ban the accounts... it might put a dampener on the whole thing.

im sure they do go after buyers, but not many. i think most people are smart enough to know that if they buy it, to do so in smaller amounts. that way, it doesnt raise such a big flag when it gets traded. also, itd be more work on blizzards behalf to keep track of all transactions between players and where the gold comes from, etc.

i've never been hacked either but for the most part nothing is placed in our guild bank that isn't free for anyone in the guild to take. I only use it to transfer an item to a guild mate, I transfer between my own accounts directly without even using the bank. essentially, our guild bank only has junk in it and less than 1k gold.

if we had our guild bank hacked we might not even know it until the hacked person spoke up.

My priest account was hacked but, they lvled it from 70-78, and left 3k gold on the account but stripped and deleted 2 other charactors (lowbies), I got an e-mail from blizz saying my account was suspended/frozen because of "ingame spamming obsenitites".. WTF?.. I got it back after 3 days and bought a authenticator..

Thx whoever lvl'd my priest lol
