omfg! my brother got hacked again! yesterday night, wtf! i told him to reformat but did he listen? no he didn't, so they took all his gold he had earned and spent all his honor but didn't touch the guild bank.

I was talking to him on the phone and following his character around org telling him what he was doing, it was kinda wierd lol.

Two of my real life friends, out of seven or eight of us that still play wow, regularly purchase gold from a site. They have never received a suspension or such, or even a warning. One of the two, was dropping $100 a check for over a year, you would think Blizzard would be aware of the gold transaction.

It is just like with the police.
If they solely prosecute the prostitutes, that is one approach.
But if they go after the "John" as well, that changes things a bit.

I bet if either of my friends (or other gold buyers in general) received an email letting them know the gold they had purchased was confiscated and that their accounts were suspended for 30 days for buying gold. And that next time they bought gold Blizzard would permanently ban the accounts... it might put a dampener on the whole thing.
I often wonder if blizzard is involved in these transactions. They make $15 per account a month in subscription fees and they could easily surpass this "taxing" goldsellers. Obviously it would have to be only a select few in the company that knew the details or it would just blow up in their face.

i've always wondered if bliz was behind selling gold of some sort, if i were them i wouldn't risk it as they are making...what? 150 million+ alone on subscriptions per month, it would piss alot of people off if they were to get caught, and that may be the actual wow killer lol.

I think you should create a new rank in your guild.

Give them the option to repair, up to whatever limit.
But no option to withdraw gold from the bank.
Let them view the tabs you want.
But have secure tabs which the new rank cannot access.

When your friends/brother upgrade to authenticators, promote them to the rank that can do whatever.
But as long as their accounts are insecure, don't give them withdrawal power.

    This.

That's happened to my guild 5x now, members being hacked and being able to jack the gbank for more items and gold than they should be allowed to take. We've had it restored each time. Every single member who's been hacked has gotten an authenticator since. Plus, after the 2nd time it happened we made all full members have the right to gkick people, so if anybody is online late at night or whatever and notices suspicious behaviour from a member and cannot verify their identity, they gkick them and all their alts to protect the bank.

I'm still not sure how so many people get hacked to begin with. Is it just viruses or are people actually giving their account info away?

Well one guy had purchased account CD-Keys online from a gold site.
So that's one way for them to have your information.
