Hi,
I've dual-boxed a while ago with both hunter and mages. At the time, i was using Octopus, it did what i wanted, without giving me extra options that i didn't want, or need. I recently picked up Dual-boxing again. However, i'm disappointed to find that Octopus is no longer available anywhere (even sourceforge has removed it's project from the listing and there's no mirrors available anywhere).
I've tried a few other multiplexers, but none have the same ease of use and i just have no affinity with them. Example; Mubox and it's rather annoying alt-tab replacement which just happens to be bound to numlock, and let's not forget that to get it to connect again, you have to close it down, which in turn closes down WoW.... excellent. I spend more time logging in than playing because of what i'd say is quite awful software, and it'd be much quicker for me to level a single character on it's own. If i'm honest, i don't like that it's a "launcher" type application, as opposed to one with a single dialog like Octopus, especially considering it's using either DirectX or OpenGL to render some of the dialogs (i'd rather they keep that to games and rendering programs, and not the "Common" software).
I'm mainly doing it in order to try and get a character or 2 upto a decent enough level to be able to pick up some more professions, and because i'm bored with raiding on my main currently, so i need something new to keep me entertained until Icecrown hits.
I'm using a single PC that's more than capable of running 2 copies of WoW;
* Intel C2D E8400
* 4Gb Dual-Channel 1066Mhz OCZ DDR2
* RAID0 with 2x1TB Samsung 7200RPM SATA2 drives + seperate non-RAID 1TB Samsung 7200RPM drive
* Geforce GTX260 896Mb
* Windows 7 X64
* 2x24" LCD Monitors at 1920x1200 Resolution
Multiple computers isn't an option. I've got 2x24" monitors on this system and have no problems running 2 copies of WoW. I just don't have, and don't wish to have, 2 individual computers in order to do something that was so easy to setup around a year ago, nor do i have the finance to be able to support such a setup.
I guess the question i'm asking, are there any download mirrors of Octopus? If not, is there any software multiplexer for a single-system setup out there that won't leave me feeling completely frustrated by the whole experience? Ideally, i'd prefer freeware, since it's unlikely i'll be multiboxing again for a while once i've done these 2 characters (possibly a mage + shaman combo, although it's yet to be finalised due to the regen each class has). Octopus had everything i needed, and nothing more. It didn't present me with dialogs bound to keys i use frequently, allowed a single system setup, and worked pretty flawlessly once setup correctly. And let's not forget the "bypass key" option that was something i wished i'd used for the first few weeks of dual-boxing
Cheers,
Chron.
