Alliance -> RP PvP -> female GNOMES (really!).

In reality, I'm Alliance -> PvE -> male Draenai / female NE, but if I was starting over with no influences, that's what I'd do

I think it's generally considered truth that horde have a better selection of PvP racials. Yah, the Diplomacy one is nice, but anyone who argues any WotLK rep is hard to raise without it is crazy. So that quickly loses its usefulness. (And this is someone with 40+ exalted reps on a space goat. i.e. no Diplomacy bonus)

That being said, Cata is going to throw our current talents out the window, so who knows where favor will slide.

From a PvP standpoint, horde has better players, since all the strong PvP players have migrated to horde over the years. Alliance generally outnumber the horde, however, so things like Wintergrasp control (at least on my server) has a high alliance success rate. Especially if I'm fighting in it and on vehicle destruction duty /flex

So basically... Pick what you like. Racials are going to change, immature/bad players will migrate back and forth. I still like Alliance for everything except for BG success rates. I only hope with the racial change, that some of the better players on the Horde side switch to Alliance, and some of the bads from Alliance switch to Horde to even things out

The Horde seem to have a lot more territory to sneak around in on a PVP server which would make those areas come to life. But I do like Org and UC as lot.
I'd say it depends on the server. If I were to choose again I'd try out both horde and alliance on the server of choice, and decide based on the general maturity level. BG's will bring out the worst in people and may serve as a good way to see how friendly and mature people are - at least to some extent, but of course there's always the issue of sample size.

    PVP or PVE?

Having played on a PVE server for years I find it to lack a certain amount of spice. Looking over my shoulder and wonder if I'm going to get ganked/attacked certainly adds spice to exploring and questing. I still have very fond memories of doing a warlock quest on the Alliance side, having to sneak, for the first time, into the Barrens. Very exciting to say the least!

Going to Ratchet as an Alliance doesn't mean anything on PVE. But going in as PVP is very dangerous and I've been lucky to get out without being killed half a dozen times.
If the only difference between PvP and PvE was whether it's possible to kill the players of the opposite faction, I'd say definitely PvP. However it's not. I've been on a PVP server for most of my time /played and I like that aspect, but what annoys me is the "exploiting" of game elements. People trying to kill you in towns by standing on a roof where the guards can't get to them, but if you shoot back, guards will attack you and stuff like that. Sure, you can do it right back to them, but I've never been able to see the fun in that kind of gameplay. Another annoyance is players of the opposite faction sniping escort quest mobs and stuff like that. It's not gamebreaking in any way, just something to keep in mind.

I started out wow by playing undead mage on anachronos EU. Loved the animations. Diden't like Undercity though.

My friend who got me into wow, was playing horde. I reached lvl 20?25? and then he created a alliance character on another server on Alliance side. I followed, and have stayed on Silvermoon since on alliance.

What I notiched was the AH. Theres way more stuff on alliance side, even though I don't know if this is still the case.

Also, im more into the "holy" stuff than the orc things. But I guess its an individual choice in the end.

Ya but questing could be almost impossible if the other side is everywhere. And it seems everyone had a care bear friend with them in their 70's.

Course I do enjoy killing off who the carebears are protecting before they get me, over and over.

Ya I would go female gnomes just to antagonize people. There's plenty of hate for that race.

I think getting attacked from nowhere is part of the "Fun" but it often happens when I least expect it which can be very annoying. As far as exploits like that, maybe contacting a GM about the roof thing?

Yes the AH is important. I started on Dentarg which has ultra low population, 4,000, and the AH prices were crazy high and there was a bad selection.

I just transferred to Kil'Jaeden(its PST) to run with more active boxers, so far it's been pretty awesome. It's high pop but I haven't seen any ques yet.

Well your server fits what I'm looking for. Seems to have about 10,000 players favoring the Alliance slightly. So no waits I assume? The name is hard for a lot of people I'm sure. At this point I would go to this server but I'm not starting up again till
