    Default Windows 7 32 or 64bit

    Hi everyone,

sorry if this has been posted before but i got vista 64 and it sucks so bad i removed it and went back to windows xp to box with.

now ive been hearing good stuff about windows 7 and xp modes etc i want to start using all my memory i got, now i want to know from people experiences from switching to 32 to 64 on windows 7, any major advantages that are worth my time?

typical things im looking at are huge memory upgrades 8-16gb of ram, will windows 7 32 and 64 support and work the same way.

has anyone got maxiumus exstream and using ati 3870x2/ creative labs exstream gamer and having no problems?

ive done research before like vista 64 from net and it typically doesnt work so id rather hear it from the horses moulth, suited for our purposes not just general use.

I am not an expert in windows capabilities, but I am running Windows7 64 and I have never, in 20 years been happier with an operating system, and I have been on Linux, Unix and Mac as well as all the windows you could shake a stick at.

very stable, very wonderful and looks sharp as hell =)

You should go for the 64bit if your wanting to use that much ram as 32bit will only support 3Gb. I have been using windows 7 for a few weeks now and it runs alot smoother than vista and its been hassle free so far. I have noticed less cpu and ram usage while boxing compared to vista also its still fast at loading firefox and other things while all the clients are running.

I'm no computer guru but I can tell you that I recently went from Vista 32 bit to Windows7 64 bit and have gotten much better performance. How that would compare to XP, I"m not sure.

As for my computer, I only have 4GB of ram and made no change with the upgrade, though I did go from multiple symlinked folders with Keyclone to one folder with ISBoxer. Additionally, I did not do an upgrade, I saved the things I wanted off my computer, wiped it, and did a clean install of Windows7.

For comparisons sake, I used to have to walk in Dalaran while boxing and would still have toons break follow whereas now I can easily mount all 5 of them, put on the pally aura and run all over the place without losing toons.

    Hope that helps.

you can't sell the OEM copy - it's licensed to that machine alone. One of the joys of OEM's

If you want XP Mode, you'll need Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate.
Win7 Home does not support XP mode.
You can still run compatibility mode, but that fails to run some programs that XP Mode will run.

A huge benefit of Win7 over Vista/XP is how it handles SSD's.
A cheap SSD, purely for the games folder, is a huge boost to boxing performance.

as I have stated in other posts.

32 vs 64 only reason not to go 64bit nowdays is if your Hardware is to old and cant support it.

Vista64 vs Windows 7 64 Very little actual performance difference at this time. Though windows 7 will handle SSD and some future hardware better.

However there is a Big Percived Performance increase for gamers, this has to do with how windows 7 handles Hardrive access and Video, windows 7 gives smoother access and smoother grafics for less stutter thus giving a greater Percived performance. in other words windows 7 gives more sustaned performance with less spikes thus inhancing our game experiance.
