I was just looking this all up myself last night. I dont understand the part about Chain Heal only hitting members of your group.

So if you are in BG, which I guess is a raid which for some reason my guys enter as a group but get all switched to other groups, I don't know why.

So my shaman is assisting the tank and has a enemy on target and they cast CH? So I think they cast on themselves but then does it bounce to anyone in the raid who has the lowest HP and is in range of jump (12 feet I thinks) or does it just stay in the group they happen to be in?

And when I am not in a BG/raid it will only jump to people in the same group when targeting an enemy?

I also cannot understand why you would get a priest and not get Circle of Healing .....

I guess I have to turn on the battle log and sort this out.

If I had to choose between a priest and a shaman healer - I'd take the shaman. Totems are so useful, especially the cleansing one. Ofc they're both viable but after having run with both for quite some time the shaman wins on my part.

Lol I know right. He's still account sharing so he's taking a risk by letting his wife play his accounts. However that is another thread and topic altogether as he has clarified his accounts are all under his name so on with his question.
A shaman in your group will open up more gear options also. So not alot of competition for cloth gear. Not that your priest had much competition on healing gear anyways.

After playing both I would say priest is more powerful for a group healing, but they really suck for cleansing (shamans its just a totem you gotta remember to drop). That said, I really enjoy healing on my priest.

You know you guys could've just asked him if the accounts were in his name before you derailed the entire thread. Good lord.

Doesn't look like it was derailed. He was informed of the possible implications of his actions and his question was still answered. He then clarified his earlier statement with the help of Fur's questioning. Still getting his question answered.

If you don't have at least one shaman on the team, I'd go with a Resto shaman as a healer over a priest.
You gain Heroism, which is huge for any boss type fight.
You gain configurable buffs via the totems which is nice.
Water Walking is a toy, but it speeds you up on occasion.
Water Breathing is extremely nice the few times you go underwater (although a Lock can do the same).
Earth Shield can be very nice.

However a priest has superior group heals and (along with a druid) is a much better mobile healer.
If the team already has another shaman on it, the priest has my vote.
    I prefer Discipline too.
If the team is all priests, dip into shadow for Mind Flay.
But with a dedicated healer, dedicated tank and 3x dps, go more along these lines: http://www.wowhead.com/?talent#bE0bh...fRtfx0c:AbfVzc

Thank you all for all your help. My next task will be to setup my healer to single target heal , I am thinking most of the healing will be to my 80 druid but I think I will also need to be able to move to another target for random heals. ISBoxer I think makes this pretty easy to do.

    Default Comparison

    Priest

    • STA, SPI & Shadow resist buffs
    • More/better AoE healing
    • Better large single target heal
    • Disease cleansing
    • Infusion and Guardian Spirit can be handy

    Shaman

    • Superior DPS & resist buffs
    • Better passive healing (totem + ES)
    • Heroism & Elementals
    • Cleansing totem
    • Wipe recovery

From my experience, a Priest healer is a great choice for groups that already have a Shaman. However, a Shaman just offers so much to a group that it's hard to make a case for anyone else in most circumstances.
