    Default Average Spellpower for level?

    Hello,

I am looking for a resource that can give me an average spellpower based on level for a class. I am getting the feeling that the dps portion of my party should prioritize spellpower above all else in their gear selection. I am basically having problems with the bosses in instances. I usually run out of mana. Tried fixing it with pots but that just delayed the inevitable. Tried respecing my talents. I am at my withs end trying to get my dps battery to be more mana efficient while gaining dps. I just want to know if I am going down the right avenue by prioritizing spellpower.

Is there a resource that can tell me what the average spellpower per level of character is?

I would imagine that this data would come from averaging spellpower from all related toons. I want to see if I am really lacking in this area. My level 71 casters have 550-650 bonus damage and do an average of 800 dps each. Is this enough?

dont have a resource, but it sounds right, i mean 800 dps is nice at lvl 70, when compare that to someone who has lvl 80 and still pulls 1k in VOA 25 man

    ;0, those people are awsome

Well I researched the frostwoven set under the tailoring profession and it looks like I can get 30% more spellpower and about 50% more spirit. Almost all of the gear my toons have other stats on them like intellect, crit rating, hit rating and other stuff. The frostwoven set really focuses on the spellpower and dps output. I have a high level tailor so I will make each dps toon a complete set and see how they do with it. Even the boomkin with her leather gear can benefit from this all cloth set. I expect to see a nice performance upgrade from this. I hope I don't get any wierd surprises.

    Any thoughts?

I'm confused as to why you're running instances at 71. IMHO, it is far far easier to quest to 80 (or get XP in AV), then do instances. I tried doing UK at around 71 or 72 and failed miserably. Came back at 80 and annihilated the place (and just worked my way up through the other normals before I started on heroics). Worked well for me.

I had a 5 shaman team so no tank and failed miserably in UK at 71 as well. I was really surprised by how difficult UK seemed compared to how easily I smashed the normal BC instances with the shaman. I ended up just questing and AVing through to 80.

In a previous thread I mentioned why I don't do quests. The reason is that I hate the NR collection quests. Don't get me wrong, I still do NR quests and sometimes do the collection ones as well. I just hate collecting. Its a personal choice thats all. I cleared UK and have it on farm status now. I do that first then move onto The Nexus. I can clear all the trash mobs in the Nexus, but wipe on the bosses because of lack of mana. I believe I can solve that problem by adding spellpower. But we will see though. Clearing trash is easy but slower than questing. The upshot is I get a lot of greens and some random blues by clearing trash. In the Nexus many of the mobs are skinnable and I usually get 0-3 artic furs per run. When I get bored of instancing I quest. When I hit a collection quest... guess what? it's easier to kill trash in an instance. Plus it sharpens my macroing skills. Instances provide many obstacles that challenge your skill in combining the right abilities at the right times. Something you don't get while questing. I one shot everything while questing. If I am in a mob dense area I send my tank out for a round up and then have all 5 toons dps the mobs down. That gets real boring. So instancing provides me the challenge I need and doesn't get boring for a long long time.

even before 80, Hit Rating is higher DPS value than Spell power until you reach cap.

This is true. But I am having a hard time finding gear with hit rating at level 71. And in general you want to be hit capped before trying something else for dps. But like I said, being hit capped is very difficult at the moment. I have not researched this but I am thinking its probably cheaper to buy/create spellpower items then buy/create hit rating items (if you can do that). I know there are gems that increase hit rating... maybe there are enchants... but they seem expensive.

Are you running with the 80 warrior and 78 priest?

What I noticed on my mixed team leveling from 0-70 was that each time my caster DPS got a new rank of their "spam" spell I would have mana problems for a few levels, ie new Shadow Bolt rank on the lock, new Frostbolt rank on the mage, etc.

If you feel that your mana pools are the problem then try to find more INT gear with decent DPS. I doubt whether any in combat mana regen gear (or spirit) gear will be able to make a difference without gimping your DPS severely.

You can always use some cheap enchants (if you haven't already) to extend your mana pools and up your DPS.

I suppose the question is can you tweak your DPS enough to drop the boss before you go OOM or can you find gear to increase your mana pool enough to drop the boss before you run OOM. You will always have a trade off between DPS and mana pool though.

If you are not questing you will also be missing out on the quest item rewards and I am not sure if the BoE greens is of similar quality.

Yes I am. And I still have trouble with the Nexus bosses.

IMO right now INT gear doesn't help much. I think it is spellpower I need, but I cannot prove that atm. So I am going to try that route.

Tried cheap enchants. It isn't enough. I even added pots but those just meant dying later than sooner.

I suspect so too, but I am going to go the spellpower route and see what happens.

Apparently the frostwoven set is better than the quest rewards I have picked up so far.

I am going to try the spellpower route to see how it goes. It's only gold and it's worth doing just to learn what would happen. It may turn out that INT and Spell Hit is the way to go even if the cost is very high gold wise.

And I could be wrong about all this.

Your first remark is interesting. I had thought originally that I would have no problem with the instances while running an 80 warrior and 78 priest. The priest has a healing rotation that tops off the party. On trash everyone comes out with max health. On UK bosses I may lose 0-1 dps guys due to miss timing. The Nexus bosses, well the order of dying goes like this. Warlock, Mage, Druid, Priest then lastly the Warrior. And the warrior will fight for a LONG time before he dies. I got Anomalus down to 6k health before wiping. I tried the mage boss, but she just wipes the floor with my toons with that stupid bouncing throw she does So I avoid her like the plague.
