Thread: AV trinkets

    Default AV trinkets

I'd like to hear some opinions on the use of the AV trinket to port back to your home base. First, what do you think is the best strategy for using it? Should you port back before their team starts to cap it? Right after they cap the GY? Right before they control it? Maybe wait til they start on the boss? What gives the best chance of slowing down or stopping the enemy? Are their only certain types of games where porting back is worthwhile?

Lots of questions I know but let me know what you think.

Secondly how do you use the trinket? If you don't keep it equipped all the time is there a way to macro equip it? My only idea would be to put it in the same place in all the bags so it can be equipped with a mouse broadcast. Do you have to wait the full cd of 2 mins after equipping it to use it?

I think boxers are well suited to defence, especially Alliance boxers where we get to thunderstorm sodding great cows off the side of a bridge, but I pretty much always go on attack.

Most games in my battlegroup are a zerg fest, and the only time I'll come back is if we're obviously behind in the race.

Then I use it when I see that my final GY has been tapped but not capped. Because pretty much nobody waits for towers / GYs, anybody I can kill will find themselves popping a loooooong way from the front line.

It's rare that I manage to re-capture it, but just being there is a distraction for them.

For equipping it, I juse type "/use whateverTheDamnThingsCalled" and everybody equips it. Then I just recall the command to make them actually port when it's off cooldown.

I use it so infrequently that it's not worthy of a slot on any bar, let alone a key binding

Once I get there, I spam TS (because it invariably takes a while for the cows to draw), dump down a full totem farm and pop all five fire elementals if they're up. That's all just to make targetting difficult and buy time for me to actually find somebody to focus.

Then it's business as usual - kill as much as possible before I die

If it turns out that there's nobody actually guarding the GY then I wander in and take out the tank. Unless the cap timer is coming up for the GY, then I'll take that back first.

    Rinse and repeat.

I love to port in, drop totems, elementals if they are up, then start with the i win button, then if melee gets close, thunderstorm. I've done this a few times recently, and I think it's made a loss into a win. Sometimes, if there arent too many horde in base, I will ninja cap the GY with an alt shaman, and continue firing away with the others. As long as they dont use aoe stun, I usually can get the cap off fine, and finish off the rest of the horde. If I die I just port back instantly, and pop hero again, as the debuff wears off every death, i have 5 chances at hero every 5 mins or so.

Side note. It's also a great way of getting your team back together, if you ever lose one, or if one gets ported to a different graveyard. Pop the trinket and you are back in business.

My gear is still crap but even so, porting back when it is zergs to the opposite General means you will port back into a mass of enemy players and I usually get roflstomped pretty quickly in those cases.

My new strategy is to back cap towers, if the Horde can keep the two towers in mid then it is usually difficult for the Alliance to kill Drekk. Has been done but they need a few good players for it. The problem is just that my team is very vulnerable to LoS and AoE fears in the narrow Horde towers. Dumping fire novas and TSs inside the little tower room is devastating though.

Sometimes I would guard SH bunker to ensure the cap and sometimes I would zerg through to Aid Station and cap. Taking out guards on top of bunkers without having to go into the bunkers is also something I do while riding past them.

I just like to mix it up and try different things, keeps AV fresh and god knows I have done loads and loads of AV over the years.

My most common strat for using the trinkets in AV is to help push the initial Offense rush then hop on D:
Ride up to Bal/Galv and help kill them, then either ride forward to the next enemy bunker and sit till it caps or run back and back-cap the closest tower then port back to base and mess with their offense.
