Thread: 5 priests team

  1. #1

    Default 5 priests team

I will start a 5 priests team today. Plan to level them ianly via kill quests and BG runs.

The biggest problem is that I don't know the priest class at all. Have seen that Holy Nova can be like autoheal nuclear bomb, but have no clue about how mana efficient is it.

Also plan to dot and run like I do with my locks, but with the twist that I will have renew x 5 and priest bubble, but no pet.
Going to get human priests for the racial "trinket" and the human priest no mana self healing spell.

Just cannot imagine the pilars of holy fire destroying everything around me

Other than that, what spec should I use for my priesties?

I was thinking about something like this:
    http://eu.wowarmory.com/talent-calc....00000000000000
    Anachronos EU
Loladunus --> Paladin Tank (PvE) || Xuljin --> Shaman DPS (PvP)
Buljin, Nuljin, Muljin --> Shaman DPS
    Tuljin --> Shaman Healer
    Chogup --> Powerwar's imp

I can't view your spec from work, so my response may be pretty useless, but I can tell you that I would try and mess around with Shadow. Five mind blasts would be pretty cool, as well as following it up with five mind flays, though the Blasts may kill 'em in one shot, anyway.

Mana may be an issue, but that's one of the reasons why I have a mage team at 80. I can provide water for all of my toons. haha.

I've got 5 priests at 80. I've tried both shadow and disc. I've recently specc'd disc in an attempt to do something in arenas (5x holy nova, 5x renew, 5x penance, 5x reflective PW: Shield, 5x fear) .. my thinking was that I would be able to have good survivability and be able to out-last long enough to win some games.

It hasn't worked out that way in arenas.. I get eaten alive by fear-immune melee, and can't out-heal the damage. My gear is not that great (i've got 4 other teams to worry about), but I can see that gear will only help to a small degree. Priests are squishy. I haven't played a ton of arena games however, so my strategy could definitely be improved, and perhaps they would be viable - but damage with disc is not enough to take down other teams, and you're dead before you can mana burn their healer.

I had the most fun in BG's as shadow. Mind-sear at lvl 80 is unreal ... I wiped the raid once at belinda by standing outside the door and casting mind-sear x5 on the guy on the guy at the edge. The DOTS hit pretty hard and will kill almost any 80 if you can get 10 of them on in 2 GCD's ... trying to defend a tower if tough though, as melee in the flag room will still eat you up real good - and switching in and out of shadow to heal kills your mana fast.

Mana is an issue with both specs - especially if you are dotting stuff a lot - so you will want to chose mana cost reduction talents. That being said, they are still very fun to play. I'll probably respec or dual-spec shadow and head back to BG's ... lots of fun.

Priests are squishy as hell when Pain Suppression is down. PVE is a bit better but not much. I ran a team to 70 and retired them almost immediately as they had so many faults for the way I played 'em. That was when I switched to priest+4 locks, which was a much more capable and lethal group. 5x mind blast is lethal as hell but it gets much less so when people get resilience. Fear Ward on everyone plus WoTF plus trinket was godly but that's being nerfed apparently. And holy priests just plain suck on offense until you gear them out the wazoo.

If you are going mainly for PvP Unbreakable Will is very handy. There was one other deep talent that I was curious about you not taking but it was probably a preference thing. The spec looks ok otherwise.

Holy Nova is kind of expensive, but very nice. If you are getting zerged Holy Nova times 5 is deadly because while it's prolonging your life it's damaging the melee chewing you up :/ One trouble with priests is that they don't really start getting good until around 40, regardless of spec. I like disc for leveling and BGs. When you hit 51 you can be a real asset with Penance and Pain Suppression on noobs trying to tank with a 2h'er, lol.

Do what's fun and just try it out. I suggest respeccing all, or all but one, to shadow at 40. Mind Flay is fun.

Priests are a fun team to mess around with in AV/WG, but they lack the utility that makes Shamans great in smaller scale and Arenas. HolyNova is fantastic for keeping your health up on the move, but it's not going to kill people in arena. DoT's are easily dispelled and don't do enough burst to really challenge a decent healer. The point, I think, of playing Priests is for mobility. Most of that mobility is negated by the fact that your real DPS spells are either channeled or have a 1.5+ second cast time. Since you're going to have to stop and cast to kill people (unless they're PvE geared, have no dispel, no cooldowns available and no healer), I just didn't see the point of not sticking with Shamans and the totem utility.

On a brighter note.. what I ended up doing with my priests is turning them into a mobile healing turret. I spec'd them all holy and, when I'm bored enough to log them in, spend most WG's running around spamming RoundRobin-ed CircleOfHealing, ImpRenew and PoM on my raid. You will never get so many positive comments as a multiboxer as you do when you multibox a pure support group in AV/WG

5x Disc priests (w/ Healing Focus and Improved Renew in Holy, and Mind Flay in Shadow) is a fun composition.
I haven't finished leveling mine, let alone start to seriously gear them.

With RAF to 60th, they leveled fast.
5x Mindblast, even untalented was powerful.
5x SW:Pain + Devouring Plague is fairly decent instant casts.
5x Holy Fire or 5x Smite is not bad either, although Shadow has more bite.

Renew, especially with the Glyph, is a very strong heal.

I went with Fear Ward on a round robin, each targeting the driver.
And had an easy to reach Mass Dispel hotkey for fear bomb protection.
Haven't really pvp'd them much, but that was my plan there.

Definitely a fun team to play around with.

This group was pretty insane when blackout still existed, now I think the shadow trees is quite odd ... well broken frankly. Like a lot of classes right now, the specs are very narrow.

Honestly I just smite spammed stuff leveling to 72 on my group, doing true single player rotations made global cooldowns taking up half the duration of fights.

I would imagine that shutting people down with Silence / Psychic Horror would be amusing in PvP

Lack of stacking with prayer of mending is a big sad face.

Wait what? Prayer of Mending doesnt stack? Crap I didnt know that. I only messed with this setup for a little bit. I RAF'd up 4 priests to 60 and used my 80 priest as the driver. Spec'd them all shadow and was.... underwhelmed to say the least. Constantly oom, low low burst, it was just ... bad. Shaman are so easymode comparatively.
