Yeah, I know. But what I didn't realize until now is that you can still use the toggle for it if you don't turn the auto switch on! I asked about this in IRC one time but I obviously did a poor job of asking my question.
gratz Coltimar - I can't clear it yet on normal - and I think my gear seems a bit better ... not sure what i'm doing wrong. My tank is 37.5k priest buffed and the priest is at 2000sp, and mages do about 2k, but the black knight kicks my butt ... what's your dps at and what was your strategy?Ok, I cleared the instance on normal. I'm gonna farm it a few times to get the hang of it.

@gitcho
(sorry just read that you are on mages, having the mail/shield for my dps really helps)
I was having the same issues, but I think I have it down now. I set my guys up against the instance portal. I then pull with my tank to get in range of the dps. DPS him down (grabbing the add as it comes).
Second phase, I pop consecration as soon as he starts to summon and then I drop 3 fire elementals. I target and kill each summoned ghoul then switch to him. It take a little longer, but this works pretty well for me now.
Third phase, I hit my follow key and have them all follow in on me, pop heroism, and spam CoH and PoH and he goes down like cake.
Hope that helps...

best i have been able to do is get the BK to 3rd phase ... don't have shamans, so I can't use elementals or heroism - can't seem to out-heal the damage - maybe i'm not doing a good enough job at picking up all the adds ... how much team damage is there in the 2nd phase if the tank has all the adds?

yes ... but I switched from frost to arcane for a bit better dps ... if this fight is significantly easier with frost, i'm down for a try ...

I agree it's nice to have for convenience as I do the same. I have a key that will equip their lances or their normal weapons. It just sounded to me like it was out of urgency or necessity like something was happening immediately after. I probably just misread into it. LoL
I don't think the adds have an agro table. They seem to randomly switch off my druid and go after shamans.
For this particular fight, with mages, I think fire might actually be a better option that frost or arcane. The idea being to bust out all your AoE's until the mob's are low, and then start cycling BlastWave's to get them away from your group. The adds dont really do much damage, and the explosion doesn't do a lot by itself. It's when you get 4-5 of them all blowing up in your face that you start feeling it.
I use a similar tactic with shamans. I burst the DK down (drop GroundingTotems away from the group, so they pull his DnD away). When he dies, they all start casting explode. Hit TS one one of the shamans to knock them all away, and they explode safely away from the group. You can avoid nearly all of his AoE damage in P2 as long as you can burst him before he DnD's through 4 grounding totems. As mage, you might not have this option.. but flamestrike and arcane explosion/holy nova spam with a few well timed BlastWaves when you see a couple of them casting explode could work. Glyphed HolyNova or CoH can pump out more than enough HPS to outheal one or two explodes and the DnD, as long as you don't get hit by too many at once.
A lot of this fight is gear, too. If your DPS doesn't have the HP to soak up a couple of explosions plus an aoe or two in P3, it's a hard fight to heal.

For phase two and three, I have a macro I switch in for my priest. It goes along the lines of
/castsequence [target=focus] Abolish Disease, Penance, Prayer of Healing, Prayer of Healing, Preayer of Healing
and I just spam that through phase 2 and 3. Tends to keep everyone alive most of the time. Once phase 2 gets going, I use Holy Wrath on my pally to grab aggro on most of the ghouls, and pop Divine Protection to reduce incoming damage. I just ignore the ghouls at this point, burn down the boss. Move anyone out of the snare as necesary. Once he gets low, 25k-ish, I set everyone to follow and make a mad dash to get everyone out of the ghoul cloud before they explode. Assuming everyone survived and the priest still has a bit of mana, at that point its just a matter of burning him down before he kills everyone with his cheap AOE death crap.
