Phasing rant

I love phasing. It's added a dimension to the game that makes it that much better, but...

I'm finishing up all of the quests in Icecrown, just to take a break from Heroics and dailies. It's good gold and I'm curious where the quests end - and just in case new ones start up in 3.3 that pick up where they currently end.

So, I have the Shattering the Shards quest. For two weeks now I'd fly in with my team - and as soon as I hit Cor'prethar, two would stay together, the other 3 would be together, and no matter what I did , they would not phase together.

I finished every quest I could find, they all have Loremaster, they all finished the other quest chains (including the "hard" groups ones, like the Admiral one, Banshee's Revenge, and Battle at Valhala), they're pretty much the same level in ToC dailies and rep...I could not figure it out - any time I'd go near the southern part of Icecrown, they'd break phase.

So...I dug in today, I'm going to figure this out. 2 hours later, after getting lists of every quest in the zone, checking and double checking for low level quests...I head down to the gate to try one more thing...fly through the gate...the two can see the camp from the ToC daily...the other 3 can't. Phasing breaks.

No. Effing. Way.

Grab the quest on the other 3, all of a sudden they can all stay in phase in Icecrown, so I start the Shard quest, get halfway through, and one of the asshole mobs knocks my team off the wall to their deaths. LOL. Quit!

One daily breaks phase. It's seriously stupid. With the massive phasing they're talking about in Cata, I hope the fix they're promising for phased team members works, because this one stupid daily has been driving me NUTS.

Note: None of them have DONE the daily yet, because I could'nt get TO it, which is why two had it, the other 3 did'nt. Now I can. We'll see what happens after I turn it in once.

It's things like that, that drive me nuts. There's a new way to poll the server for what quests you've done in 3.3*, so *fingers crossed* the quest helpers will include this to help us get our toons caught up with each other!



*What's interesting about this is, there are GMs who still claim there's a lot of quests nobody has done yet, like the imfamous ghost quests. The new abilities I believe include polling the server for a full quest list...if so, those quests may finally be found. I read about it on MMO Champions, the new quest links are live on the PTR right now.

The thing that annoys me the most is the vehicles.

I want to play a druid, rogue or a warrior (etc).
Not a flying dragon which can swoop or breath fire onto buildings.
Or a tank with four moves.

The phasing is annoying when the toons are on different steps.
And it can break follow, which sucks too.
But the vehicles in the place of the classes, annoys me the most.

Well, if it's any consolation, I can't find which quest I'm stuck on with my warlocks for the fel hunter. I think I did a quest or two while leveling them up and just didn't finish the line, then abandoning all quests when I picked up leveling them again.

I swear I've walked from quest giver to quest giver and none of them seem particularly interested in talking to me.

So yes, I have 4 level 80 warlocks and no fel hunters.

A-frickin'-men to that. It's one thing to do a few novelty vehicles, but they went way overboard with it, IMO. Here's hoping they lay off of that kind of thing in the future.

Supposedly they have fixed phasing in Cataclysm. I read a dev chat where they said it wont be an issue anymore..... we will see.

Make sure and abandon which ever part of the chain your on .

I read your post, chuckled, and went about starting my Argent Tournament dailies.
OH SNAP I get to that little outpost "At The Enemy's Gates" and 1 of my 5 has no lance. No problem, right? I'll just pick up an argent lance.

I forgot what I was originally going to say, and I'm not going to edit that last post because it's perfect as is. So I'm just replying to myself, as people like us do, in addition to finishing our own sentences (as someone else)

I really hope whoever came up with the current system and somehow failed to realize this was contrary to the concept of inviting people to groups was removed from development.

I was going to say something meaner like "I hope they lost their job", but that's just meaner. I don't want their family to be homeless or anything. I just want them to stop with the AMATEUR 1997 EQ BETA NOOB BULLPUCKEY dev mistakes. How could they not foresee this? How could they not foresee the FAFILLIONS of hours of customer service time wasted by people petitioning and bug reporting "i cant see my teammates with whom i am grouped kplzthx"?

It's a disgusting oversight.

My toons break follow in phased content all the time.

I'm not sure if your issue is one of simply breaking follow, or if it's an issue with actually seeing different phases of a zone, but all I can suggest is when you're flying around ice crown our storm peaks, just have them follow you a short way to make sure you're all pointed in the right direction and angle, and then just broadcast the fly forward key.

That's what I do. That way I know they won't break follow, since none of them are following. On the other hand. If I am following, and they break follow. I just have them all fly forward a bit (Again, broadcasting the move forward key), so they all safely "phase" into the right area. Then I can refollow and be on my way.

I really hope they do fix it, though. It's rather annoying.
