Thread: Formations

  1. #1

    Default Formations

Before the flames ensue, i want to apologize for this seemingly useless thread. But i cannot figure out formations, i've checked as many threads as i can, i've checked the wiki entry, but i still cannot grasp the concept of using the directional keys on key bindings.

I'm using bartender, so i don't have a problem with adding the keys, it's just how do i add "strafe left" to a key?

This has been stressing me out for the last couple of hours, i cannot find out anything.

I'm using two characters, shamans, with the names TialocA and TialocB (yes, i'm sure i can figure something out that's a little bit more clever, it's just to test the whole thing out)

So PLEASE for the love of God, can someone explain what i need to do?

I'm using keyclone, do i need to enter the code into that? or just use a macro?

All i'm looking for is a simple (which i don't think is possible) way to put my two characters side by side.

Assign a key that you use for formation. I use the ` and bind it differently for each toon. For toon A, I have it bounded to forward. For B, I have it bound to move backwards. For C, strafe left and for D, strafe right. This creates a "plus" formation.

You can do a straight line using key bindings too, but it would take two keys (or one key and a modifier). Bind one key to have two toons strafe left and two toons strafe right. Then bind another key to have one toon strafe left and one strafe right. This will result in the four toons in a straight line.

How do i assign a direction to a key, though?

Say i wanted the "G" key to make toonB strafe right, what do i need to do?

Hit the escape menu and click on Key Bindings. You'll get this page. Click the Not Bound button and select the key you want. This is very basic stuff.

    Thanks, Heenan.

And it might be basic stuff, but i've never used key bindings that way, just used bartender.

No problem. Just assign one toon to Strafe Left and the other to Strafe Right. Whatever key you choose make sure it's the same one, so "G" on both if you like. When you hit that they will spread out.

Note that if you're auto-following with the secondary toon that he/she will be about 3 feet behind your main, so if you do that they'll be at 45 degree angles from each other. You can compensate by backpedaling on the main for a second before you hit the spread out key.

You'll see what I'm talking about.

So... in theory, you could bind the 'g' key to do different things on each of the toons

To create a cross formation, backpedal your main into the bunch and have one of the toons with 'g' as backpedal, one as strafe right, one as strafe left and the last one to move forward.

And if you have the DBM addon installed, create a macro that lets you open /range so that you can spread out to 10 yds apart.

Now I am going to have to try this one when I get home tonight

This is as good as any thread to tag along, I have read the macro forums (mostly). And not to ninja his thread but is there a easier way to macro then to write a macro for a slave and rewrite it for each and every other toon. I also use bartender and while I'm making headway into my 5-box I find that two things drive me nuts.
    1) Occasionally Shift will xfer through to the box's even though I have a do not pass set for shift and it will cause the default bar to scroll up and stop the abilities of my slaves. I Macro lb's on my shaman to work with my tanks primary ability. Sucks when they just stop casting cause something i hit caused the default bar to move up in wow.
    2) I Use keyclone and have not for the life of me figured out how I press "Modifier+key" and make it correspond on another machine as say "g"

The strafing different directions along with forward and backward are pretty easy to do, as far as creating a spread out key. With four or fewer toons, assign each a direction. With a fifth toon, that one doesn't have to move to be different.

I'm not sure how you're move with a formation, as independent movement invariably leads to toons moving away from each other. And follow will break a formation almost right away.
