Ret Pallly, Frost DK, & ??? (and some questions)
hello, first time post. I have been browsing and lurking around for a while. Got my keyclone updated last week, and wanted to start playing some 2 boxing again.
I mostly just enjoy to PVP since I have been playing wow. Stopped playing arenas after Season 3. Took a break, and now have booted everything back up, want to 2 box, took advantage of an Alliance DK I had, account transfer and faction changed it last week. Been having a blast in Wintergrasp with the Ret Pally http://www.wowarmory.com/character-s...&n=Acidburning and Frost DK http://www.wowarmory.com/character-s...n=Crashoveride in tow.
Question 1:
I am considering a 3rd toon. My options are:
LVL 70 Druid
http://www.wowarmory.com/character-s...&n=Burningacid
LVL 70 Priest (kind of biased, original vanilla toon, has like 54k kills on it from vanilla days)
http://www.wowarmory.com/character-s...ona&n=Medicate
LVL 80 Warlock
http://www.wowarmory.com/character-s...=Garona&n=Lulz
I am leaning towards a disc priest. It gives me some heals, some instants, a little more durable (from a boxing perspective) than the druid.
I have a few more questions, but I think I will save them for later. It's mostly about setup and what not. But I have been tweaking my 2box setup for the past week. Learning new things, playing around with different techniques. I want to make a more intelligent question about setup sometime later :]
Thanks in advance for your comments and suggestions on the comp.
Cheers,
Acidburning

welcome to the boards, when you think about class setups, you have to think about detail spell rotations, leader selection, and finally class synergy. And picking 3 different classes to box is a challenge, not to mention 2 of them are melees :P.
Assuming your main interests are battlegrounds, and your DK is the leader (death grip for the kill).
1. Druid, you can either use it as a added DPS or a pocket healer. As healer, you get minor buff, easy healing rotation, no dps gain. Not much synergy there. As melee dps, you get a better buff, but no heal at all. No healing is not an option, since you need ways to recover your HP while and after you kill your first target. The last thing you want is to have one of your tooms rezzed at a gy far away.
2. Disc Priest, minor buff, great heals, can dps when you need it too. That smite + holy fire is deadly. Great instant heals for emergencies. The only draw back is that as a pocket healer, you are using disc priest's to maybe 30% of its full potential. You could have 1 button to assist dps. and another one for assist healing. Some major utilties like fear and pain supression have to be mapped seperatedly also.
3. Warlock. this is IMO out of the question. It provides no benefit to your group. It only adds to dps. It doesn't buff your group (only HP buffs). and it has no synergy with two melees. No healing.
So clearly out of the 3, disc priest is the winner. But for me, I would want to go with another melee. Possibly another retribution paladin. They can heal a little bit. and you have synergy in your group. All 3 melees running around smashing people.
With the 3rd guy as range, you will have to hit stop follow in order to cast. This will become a little harder to control in the battle. Imagine you chase a guy in melee. Your priest stops following and starts to cast smite. You go too far from your priest. Then you have to go back to pick him up.
So to sum it up, my suggestion is that if you go melee, go melee on all 3 (no range). But if you have to choose from the 3, pick disc priest.

Any combination you want to work with, will work.
Some will take more effort then others, but given the time and macro/keybinds anything can work.
If you're playing just yourself, you need to be self reliant as much as possible.
With three toons, all dps is viable in arena, if you plan to include two other toons (including at least 1 healer probably), both played by other players.
In battlegrounds, three dps is viable too, but the healer will likely get you a larger boost.
An affliction warlock gets Haunt and Siphon Life for passive heals, just by DPSing.
I know there are blood talents for a DK to heal quite a bit.
Not sure on Ret getting heals just by dpsing, but they do have healing capability.
If you can down things fast enough, then you can recuperate.
I personally love Discipline priests, so would lean that way.
Discipline can dps ok, but that's not their strength.
You get mana burn, fear ward, pain suppression, penance, mass dispel, etc.
With a small investment into shadow, you can add mind flay quite easily.
The druid is tempting, as you will have Rejuvenation and Lifebloom which can be cast on the move.
Regrowth and possibly Wild Growth as well, if you go deeply into Resto.
Pre Wrath, my favorite spec for a druid was Dreamstate.
Deep enough in Balance for moonkin form and dreamstate.
And then pick up Swiftmend in the resto tree.
Then a few points left over to choose between Faerie Fire, Improved Moonkin (Spirit to damage) or slightly better heals.
A dreamstate druid loses Wild Growth which is a very powerful AoE heal, but gains a not insignificant dps capacity, easily far ahead of a Disc Priest.
I'd still go Disc personally, but its a tough choice between the two.

I'd go feral druid, keep all melee, and u get some decent buffs. You could always dual spec to resto, and have a tree always topping you off with HoTs, as melee you will be mobile a lot, and druids are good mobile healers. Priest to a lesser extent.
