I can't seem to figure out if when I cast purge on a target (with all 4 shamans) it removes up to 8 debuffs or just 2.
Ie, should each shaman simply /cast purge or should a stagger be used? (/castsequence reset=1 ,,purge).

He asked about purge.. not wind shear.

/stopcasting is generally bad in pvp on anything other a dedicated interrupt key. Considering you're constantly being stunned, feared, silenced, targets move, alts get assist lag, hunters feign death, etc. - button mashing saves you those precious fractions of a second you have to cast.
My healer and I did some testing tonight in the world arenas -- he loaded himself up with hots and buffs and a single press of purge (no staggering, each shaman cast purge at the same time) resulted in removing 7-8 buffs/hots. So essentially we should be able to fully purge anyone in 1-2 cast.

I have a 5 shaman team set up to do 3 purges/1 windshear/1 frost shock. This removes 6 buffs, snares, and silences, in 1 GCD. I have it set to the control mod of my 5 flameshock macro and use it when EM is down and I plan a LvB nuke on something that can dispell/load up HoTs. Hit 5 FS, Ctrl for snare/silence/buff removal, and then LvB for the kill 90% of the time.
More than 3 purges at a time seems a bit overkill, as the buffs that avoided the first checks for resistance will also avoid the rest. 4-6 buffs being removed should drop anyone to kill range for a 4 or 5 shaman setup. I don't have the purge on a castsequence as it really has no benefit.
One interesting effect of multiple simultaneous purges occurs when going against another boxer. 4 simultaneous purges removes 4 GTs, not just one like 4 or 5 of any other spell cast in a short time frame. So if you go against another boxer in arena purge their GTs then immediately nuke for a huge opening advantage.
Anyway I'm drifting off topic...short form 4 purges at once removes up to 8 dispellable buffs.
I don't have enough dps to one shot 100% of my main targets with the opener. I thought about changing my opener macro to:
...Purge, FS, LvB instead of FS, LvB. I lose a gcd but isn't it a gain afterwards since I just remove lots of hp and protections?
This isn't jacking your threadit can be an answer

I mass purge with a key and it removes 2 magic debuffs for each cast for each shaman.
I used the pvp area in DM while I was there, dropped paladin and the shaman purge spammed away. A few issues I saw were that a 'resist' occured and that seemed to just remove one of the two buffs, partial resist.
Fwiw the same key modified also mass wind shears. I usually just switch from button mashing dps key to mashing that key and it works fine. Not all the shaman will be able to cast it since some will be still dpsing at different rates.
