Thread: Arena points

How do you get 17 points from beating a team with 800 rating when your team is at 1750. Is it completely random? Or there are some hidden parameters there I don't know about.
I was looking through heyaz' team match history and come across this.

because their MMR is higher than his

MMR is the variable that determines how points are awarded for a win/loss.

If my team was 800 rated, but we play at a 2300 level, then our MMR (match making rating) will both pair us up against other 2300 MMR teams and award points as though we are a 2300 team, regardless of where our team rating is at. ie: A team at 2200, but with a 1200 MMR (pretend they've been playing like total crap for a week) beats me... I would lose huge points. Basically... a 1200 team just beat a 2300 team.... huge upset so huge points.

So as blue stated, MMR can be determined in between Great luck = 16, Terrible luck = 150 games. So If I keep losing in the beginning (before 1500), played 300 games to get to 1500. My MMR will be low. Then turn on the heat all of sudden, I will get better points for winning since my MMR is low. and It can take a long time to change as I start winning after 1500 TR.

    Does this sound right ?

Basically, I can have 0 MMR even though my TR is at 1500. and before my MMR change again. I am at 1800 already because I get 18 points per win due to my low MMR.

Yes, there are a lot of up and coming teams carrying over 2k+ MMRs from last season, or just overall high MMR contributions from being on other 2200+ teams. We beat teams anywhere from 1800-2200 MMR and got a ton of points - actual rating of the team could be anywhere from 0 to slightly lower than the MMR.

The MMR also seems to increase faster than team rating if you beat teams rated much higher. i remember around 1700 beating a 2290 team (actual rating) and we jumped over 1920 MMR.

Edit: actually we were 1568... this is one of my fav wins so far:

Thanks man. I'm having my healer fraps some 5v5 games, he's gotten a few good ones so far that we'll put on Youtube. As soon as I get a setup I like, I'll start recording some myself, but I'm anxious to see his point of view.

The idea of 3 v 3 by yourself is great. I just started doing it. I can practice my setups, new ideas in action. All that without pissing off a healer or destroying my 5 v 5 ratings. And the fact that you were winning along the way is very encouraging.
