    Default Windows 7 Versions

I was wondering if for us Multiboxers is there any performance difference/issue on the several Win7 versions or if it's ok to buy the cheapest of the 64bit- Home I think (since many of us have several systems to upgrade ).

    Thank you for your attention

It appears that you lose the ability to run compatability mode and join a domain, remote desktop, by running the home premium version... nothing notable really.

The best bet for 5 boxers is likely to be two home premium family packs...

I'll definitely be buying a family pack myself to upgrade my wifes PC and our DVR, but since I'm throwing a launch party myself I got a freebie Ultimate license.

Anyone with multiple PCs to upgrade might want to consider taking advantage of a Microsoft TechNet Plus membership. It runs $349 for a 1 year subscription and allows you access to all flavors of Windows 7, Office 2007, and much more. You can use up to 10 product keys per product. Discount code TNWIN7RTM also offers a 25% discount on a new Direct subscription if its still in effect.

Careful, the TechNet Plus subscription should be for evaluation licenses only. They do occasionally check up on these things too.

The only program I'm aware of which actually provides production licenses is the Microsoft Partner Action Pack, which I happen to have as I work as an IT consultant with my office in my home. That was how I managed to get Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit RTM installed on my primary computer nearly 2 months ago.

Yeah Win7 64bit has a nice boost to it, its much lighter weight compared to vista and I feel the additional structure behind it when gaming. Much less overhead to worry about which is always a good thing.

Wow, thanks for the heads up on the Windows 7 Family pack. That just might make the upgrade affordable.

Yup been looking at the family pack but have yet to find a place that I can get it from locally, is you guys have any online stores that sell it let me know. Amazon had it but they dont anymore, some other places had it but they also are not taking reservations. One place had it for 300 but it only cost 150 so I was like forget that.

Has anyone bought their OS from a vendor on Pricewatch.com? I've bought some hardware, but never an OS. I know you have to watch out for Student Edition or one install only versions. I see a full copy for about $150.00 (I don't have 3 licenses to upgrade with the Family Pack and I prefer the Pro version.
