Default 4 hunters 1 resto shaman?

I am looking to get in to multiboxing and was wondering if this combination would be arena viable. 4 beast hunters could focus fire while the shaman tries to stay alive with the aid of my traps. bloodlust should give me the boost i need to help my autoshots hurt enough I would think. Anyone with any thoughts or experience on 4 hunters in the arena?

I ran with this at release of wotlk (or rather I hit 65 when the xpac came out, which was nice since the air totem gave them ranged attack speed boost). The issue I had is that getting them to 80 is great, but then you need to find something to do with them. The pets just don't have the raw mitigation needed to tank heroics, though they have amazing threat and trade aggro amazingly well. They just don't have 30k health, 60% mitigation, blocking 2k, etc. Though they do deal with AoE damage great.

Someone might link their success in doing heroics, but likely their gear will be above heroics already when they are doing it.

I revisited these guys recently for brewfest to try and get my main boxing group more kodos. The hunters lay out out a serious amount of ezmode damage and so do the beastmaster pets, and the talents for amping out the healing done to pets is just amazing for the shaman, coupled with the mend pet removing just a cheaty amount of debuffs.

Every time I see a green mail piece with +def drop I often think about those hunters. They really need quick mob turn over and crazy DPS.

I also had problems with pet 'dancing' which caused a lot of wipes. A mob and a pet would trade facing back and forth and in doing so they would aggro pulls of mobs. This occurred very fast when it did occur, it seemed to occur always in Nexus on the frozen faction people which is just charming.

ya, prior to wotlk it was way easier to have pets tank, hell even a 5 hunter group could do some heroics

if you just plan on grinding honor for pvp stuff though this could be a great group to use for it

For what its worth in battlegrounds what I have been doing is having my 'healer main' (shaman/priest) follow someone else in the raid (with their consent, eg a guidlie) in 'the pack'.

And I run with the dps group (hunter/warlocks) close, but much looser and sometimes break off completely when the pack needs an aoe healer and I need to pressure another group / or whatever.

This really works well, I can obviously bring the healer back and do for anything serious.

My first WotLK team was four hunters and a resto druid. Levelling was easy as pie, and instancing was a piece of cake too.

PvP, however was a nightmare due to the deadzone. Yes, the deadzone is small now but it's still there.

I had rotating pet charges, rotating scatter shots, rotating traps, individual pet targets... quite a sophisticated set up (even if I do say so myself!) but other than in AV where I could just stand in the background and shoot people it was an absolute nightmare.

I honestly don't see four hunters being viable in arenas.

Firstly my comments should be taken as coming from someone who has only ever solo played a hunter, and that was pre wotlk. (I have recently been running two hunters in amongst others but that isn't pvp either).

I had a macro that basically did raptor strike, mongoose bite, wing clip at the same time, the wing clip allowed me to get to run through them and get to range. obviously it was easier being able to do 180 degree jump shots to whack concussive on them and to kite, but the wing clip might help. (although I don't think warriors had bladestorm back then.

Also, cant you use the disengage ability. You can't round robin this but it would shoot your hunters back well out of melee range and allow you to whack concussive on etc. Not sure what the cooldown is on it, but I've certainly seen it used a couple of times in quick succession by hunters in arena (possibly a preparation type ability in survival tree).

I would give some thought to a BeastWithin / Readiness build and find a rotation that has high burst but doesn't waste aimed shots, obviously a sting spammer and tranq/purge spammer, but also give some thought to a side bar that abuses intimidation and plays that to your 5th's strengths. You really need to run over two people right away.

It really depends on what the gear of the opponents are on how 'vaporized' they are. It's pretty easy to tell when you run into someone in battlegrounds wearing pve gear.as your cheesy semi-staggered "heykoolaid, pet, intimidate, tranq, 2spell, readi,2spell" setup is going to just vaporize them.

With better gear, those crits just don't come around and its much like the warlock where your doing a lot of casting, but the kills are not rolling in.

I've thought about this combo several times as my original character was a hunter (and pretty well known in pre-BC WOW for my hunter how to videos (back then, hunters were often considered a weak class in PvP -- google "Clovian hunter pvp video").

Anyhow, while this would be fun for instances my ultimately goal with multiboxing has always been PvP and sadly this is not a viable comp for arenas.

For fun I made 5 hunters on the PTR and took them into a few WSGs and its probably more of because I really had no idea what I was doing (I haven't played my hunter seriously since 60 and its such a different class now) but I just got rapped over and over.

On my shamans on the other hand, people are actually happy to see me when I join a BG But that's a class I've had a lot of practice with in boxing.

I have 4 x Hunters + Druid at level 80. I will just confirm what was already said :

    - Levelling is great, easy and fun, both outdoors and in instances (with AOE pets like gorillas). I did levelling with 4 beast mastery hunters and a resto druid.

    - Heroics are simply not possible. Even trash mobs chew through pets in no time. I tried again after gearing my hunters in early epic PVP gear : same result.

    - Battlegrounds are great fun. I respecced hunters to mark and the druid to range DPS, though. I found that to be more efficient. The team can really make a difference in some cases, quite impressive.

    - Arenas are a no go. Admittedly, I am probably just not good at arena at all, but I never won a match. Ranking 0, after more than 100 matches. Not fun at all, I did it just for the arena points to buy starters gear faster. Well, not fun, but rather laughable to see how quick some mêlée teams could go through my hunters.
