Windows 7 Upgrade

10/22/09 is almost upon us so:

I am interested if anyone has swapped to Win7 and is a user of innerspace. Specifically I was wondering how hard the process is to complete. Is it a simple insert disc and install or do you need to format disc and therefore save all data to an external drive? Im hoping it's easy and I wont have to redo innerspace keymaps.

You won't have to redo any of your IS/ISBoxer setup.

Upgrading to Windows 7 should be pretty painless as far as multiboxing goes. If you're using Windows XP, then the worst case is you will now have UAC and will have to run some programs as Administrator (same as if you were upgrading to Vista). If you're using Windows Vista, then everything should operate basically the same (but perform better). It should be just that simple, even if you're going from 32-bit to 64-bit, etc. Just upgrade Windows and it should still work as it did before

I know it doesnt help much that I'm using Keyclone, but I haven't had a problem in the upgrade so at least you have a fallback if you run into issues with IS. You shouldn't tho. I was coming from vista64 going to win764..just an fyi

Microsoft stated that there will be no direct upgrade from XP -> Win7. They couldn't guarantee what the end result would be. So for now only Vista will have a direct upgrade, all others have to migrate/backup/wipe etc.

I am using IS/ISboxer with Win7 and it runs way better than Vista did.

when you upgrade, is it like a patch? or do you have to reinstall everything? I have never "upgraded", I always buy new PCs with whatever windows is out at the time hehe. But W7 sounds like it will be worth it.

I would recommend NEVER upgrading from one version of Windows to another.

Always do a clean install. (you can use upgrade disc to do a clean install, as long as you have the previous required copy on disc as well)

When you upgrade, you leave behind lots of "shit" from the old OS. It will cause problems at some point.

i agree that upgrading is somewhat bad.. But for users who are not familiar with formatting and installing a new operating system, upgrading can be easier for them.

But if you know what you are doing, format and install because windows 7 installation takes like 10-15 min and most of it is automated.

If you have two hard drives, a large enough flash drive or external hard disk, or even a cd/dvd burner, you can pretty easily back up a lot of information.

I've done my upgrades for the summer... motherboard, i7-920, 12gb (12,800) ram.

Next summer thinking of one or both:
a) Stronger non-X2 video card + 2nd 30" monitor.
b) Intel gen2 SSD with Win7 and WoW on it.
