I personally wanted to be able to run my own instances, quite a bit harder then an all DPS team, but it allows me to do my own thing and not rely on others to get a 5-man group.
in my limited experiences I found that multiboxing casters whether they are dps are healers is not very hard. Adding melee (ie a tank) to the mix is what makes it difficult because then positioning becomes a big factor in things where as spellcasting could hardly care what you are targetting or how far away you are from it. My hats off to the people who can run tank/healer/3xdps, it takes a lot of work to pull that off IMO.

Im currently running a 5shaman team and have been consistently killing the first boss in RFC with <1death each time since I was 13-14. Havent gone further toa combination of problems outside of my control. (server crashes and needing sleep lol) But ive now dinged 15 from that place. Need to push hard to get the gear from there before I outlvl the place lol. I should be able to full clear now and getting adds is no longer a wipe

and there are a number of people who are 5boxing dps and can clear a number of instances without too much problem, including some heroics. So going with 5 DPS does not necesarily mean you cant do any instances, however you need some form of heals. so if you want to play mages add in a holy priest or a healadin etc. because raw dps without heals would make an instance not very doable.
