Displaying Combat Log Bad?
I thought I read once that having the combat log displayed separately significantly reduced FPS. Obviously anything that is getting updated constantly, will increase CPU etc...
That said, I do see a lot of UIs that display the Combat Log separately. Am I misremembering or is that not the case now?
Thanks, my UI is in a constant state of flux.

You would have to explain what you mean by 'displayed separately' and 'fps'. Some people see FPS and lag or memory/cpu utilization as all one in the same for 'performance'.
If you mean the vanilla 'general' and 'combat log' chat windows displaying side by side and 'combat log' displaying 'everything'. I would be doubtful of 'significant; reduction in frame rates. This information is obviously low priority buffered text that is inbound on the game nomatter what for the most part, to the unit frames, combat tools, a whole host of crap in the titan/fubar/broker world, quest logs, cooldown junk, autobar achievements, etc.
If you mean 'combat log' to be parrot or similar where a setup might be rigged to dynamically fade rainbow colored shadowed bordered text with spell icons and so forth, sure. I could believe that.
But these are systems where 1024x768 and 24bit in major cities is a huge issue, you see a big aoe fest and your walking into a wall and so forth. And zone loading is quite long.
I would say again that the minimap tracking is at times and for certain classes a 'significant' resource hog.

Displayed separately when you unlock the combat frame and drag it to a different location the the chat frame. I would expect Parrot, Mik etc... to have some performance hit. Maybe my aging brain is misremembering, but I thought I read that have the combat log visible could slow things down. Then again, it may have been their opinion and there has been a number of patches that improve (hopefully) performance.
Thanks.

The combat log is there, displaying the information in real time even if you don't have the window showing. I think the performance hit is minimal at best. I never understood the benefit of watching the log scroll by so fast, I never could read it. That's why I use MSBT on my main so I can see incoming heals / damage and outgoing damage on my main.
