My guess is that Arthas will escape (or leave via some means) at the end of the 5-man encounter and show up again in a patch 3.4 raid. Taking him down with just 5 people (+1 npc) doesn't feel right. The death of ARthas needs to be more epic to fit with the story.

From the raids panel:
After that, the panel went on to talk about raid dungeons, the first being Icecrown Citadel, which will be released in patch 3.3. This is the home of the Lich King and his Scourge army. The waypoints used in Ulduar received a lot of positive feedback, so we plan to use those again in this dungeon. We are currently planning to implement 12 epic encounters, including battles against the ultimate Frost Wyrm, Sindragosa, and the Lich King himself! This dungeon will also include a new 5-player dungeon with 8 bosses spread across three separate wings.
I imagine he will poof. It's cool that I will get to see him at least. Playing with friends in a scrub guild doesn't mean I have to miss out on everything this time!
Tempest kee......icecrown citadel was merely a setback!!!!
Awesome sounds like fun.
Currently running 10 miners in Eve Online.
I don’t see him poofing.
Blizz acknowledged they made a huge mistake in BC designing so much of the encounters to challenge the 1% who actually got to see them. They even had to seriously nerf the crap out of them to allow perhaps another 15% of the player base access prior to WoTLK.
I see Arthas getting his arse handed to him by every casual tom, dick and larry; leaving some new encounters for the 10/25 dungeons.

Really awesome, a raid type progression 5 man? That's something new, no?
Now, if they can only avoid putting some weird arse vehicle scenario in there that isn't "boxable".

Aww, with all the ripping off of LotR that Wrath has done, I was hoping they'd give us the cavalry charge as well (recycling the jousting mechanic too).
Nothing skillful or anything, just basically a cut scene you can participate in, kinda like the chaotic battle for LHC at the end of DK starting zone with the super buffs and heals so you can't die.
Here's to hoping they'll put it in as a continuation of the Argent Tournament or perhaps more likely, the Black Knight quest line.
Someguy: "You must really like playing with yourself"
Me: "OH HELLS YEAH!"
Just my thoughts here, but the confrontation with Arthas will likely serve as a conclusion to the Lich King story line for casuals. The lich king will lie before the players, shattered and broken, his terrible war on the living brought to an end by the might of "charname". The Lich King will not rise again for some time.
Cue the Icecrown Raid. The Lich King's power broken, he is no longer a threat to Azeroth, but given time, he may rise again. And so, with allies at hand and the horde/allince at their heels, it is time to end the threat of the lich king forever.
