Thread: Video card

    Default Video card

I'm suspecting my card is going bad on me. I lost one before where it just went sudden;y.

This time, what I'm getting, other thanan increased frequency of blue screens is the screen freezes completely, and a high pitched whine comes from the speakers.

Bad card? If maybe not, what should I look at to confirm?

If it's definately the card, I have a Nvidia GTX 280, happy with it and was pretty pricey when I bought it. Still considered a good card or there one better?

    Thanks.

the gtx u have is really good, the blue screens means that ur video card is getting to hot, dl a program that tells u the temp of the different items in ur case... see if its really hot..
    thats prolly what it is

Ah cool. I think my top fan is slowing down, it's rattling abit. Someone told me ball bearings are warped or something. Been meaning to get it replaced. Probably could use a good blow out w/ a can of air too.

Any suggestions on programs? Im kind of dumb w/ computers.

Also, anyway to fix the heat issue otherwise?

http://www.guru3d.com/category/rivatuner/ will be useful for you. There should be software that came with the card that will will tell you the temp you are running at.

the same hap to me, at first i thought it was the card as well, when running 3dmark vantage, the pc would just shut off, then i looked over my install, and i used the adaptors that were already there for my power connections 2x4-1x8 and the 1x6 from my psu. then i changed them out for the ones that came with it 2x6-1x8 and 2x4-1x6 and no problems at all, i do know that im gonna have to rip that stock cooler off of my bfg gtx280oc and replace it with an aftermarket cooler, 79-85c is a lil hot for me (max of 212f) so yea, thats what worked for me

Blew a crap load of dust out yesterday (not that much but enough) was probably a overheating issue. Went 6 hours w/o issue. I'm thinking the top fan I have on my case is warped, creates a heluva racket when spinning so probably not blowing as much air as it should.

I'm reading a few things, people have been having issues w/ the GTX 280 and others are suspecting it's actually the motherboard casing the issue, not the card. (But still seems related to heat.)

If I'm reading this correctly, it's probably not the card?

Bearings actually don't warp but the bearing race they ride in gets worn and it gives more room for the ball bearings to slop around in. Which is where the rattling comes from. Once they start its like a snowball effect and it will get worse.

Sounds like a power supply issue to me.

Uggh, a third culprit. I guess Im going to have to take it to someone to look at. Definately beyond what I can fix. Lol, I don't want to take it to the Geek Squad after what they did to my last computer.
