Exclamation Aion and HKN/Keyclone - No Dice.

I haven't gotten either HKN or Keyclone to work with Aion. I believe that I'm running the latest Aion patch (I purchased a copy from the store rather than a direct download, and I then had to apply one patch to the game before launching).

Other programs and games seem to work with both of the respective software, but not Aion. While using Keyclone, Aion doesn't seemed to be recognized at all. For my testing, I launched two copies of the game and then set them up side by side in windowed mode. I then started up Keyclone, which recognized my Aion clients, but failed to communicate with either of them. It seemed as if the game didn't allow any outside communication, because even a simple command like the default PAUSE key (which stops Keyclone) was not recognized.

To try and validate the issue that I was running into, I loaded up a few copies of WoW and then tested the Keyclone software. This worked perfectly fine, Keyclone was able to communicate with WoW without any issues or tweaks. I then closed the Keyclone client and fired up HotKeyNet.

For HotKeyNet, I took a copy of Moorea's script (thank you Moorea) and then loaded it with the HKN program. The script was recognized and appeared to have loaded successfully (I received a message from the HKN box which stated that the script loaded without any errors).

I then loaded up two copies of Aion, side-by-side, just to see if I could send anything to either of the clients. I got to the login screen (same spot where I was at with Keyclone), and I tried to type something into the username field. Unfortunately, nothing happened here either. Only the window with focus was receiving commands. Aion seemed to ignore the secondary instance that was up and running.

My next thought was to actually log into the game with both accounts, and then try to do things with both instances of the game. I loaded and logged into Aion, set my characters next to each other and then loaded up Keyclone. Again, both Aion clients were recognized, but the communication only seemed to work on the client with the focus. Here again, the Pause key (the default Keyclone stop button) didn't work. I tried tweaking several settings, and I even downloaded the latest copy of Keyclone to try and resolve the issue, but I still didn't have any luck.

When switching back over to HotKeyNet, I was also unable to send anything to the client that didn't have the focus.

In the event that you're interested, the operating system that I'm currently running is Windows 7 x64.
This is a clean Windows 7 install too; I currently only have about 15 applications installed (mostly Adobe and Microsoft products, as well as Apache). Aion and WoW are co-existing on one of my Solid State Drives.

Does anyone have any ideas/tips/advice on getting either software program to run within the game? I'm willing to help troubleshoot this if necessary, and I'm open to trying any reasonable ideas presented here.

Also, in an unrelated topic: Has anyone figured a way around the 2-instance maximum limit of Aion per computer?

    Thanks in advance.

After you load my script you have to make sure scroll lock is on; then type Ctrl-Alt-R (for "rename") - that will also set the focus on mouseover with 0 delay - and rename your windows to A1 and A2, only after that it will send the keys to both - remove scroll lock after your did that - then hit pause; login in each window; get in game and it will broad cast all keys but movement ones (as you should follow on the other toon)

Yesterday on the stream I walked Souca through the setup... let me see if I can find the times and make a clip...

In order to send keystrokes on Vista, with most games, HotkeyNet needs to be run as administrator.

Thank you Freddie and Moorea for your insight. I will attempt to get this working tonight and post my findings here.

ah yes, I have "run as administrator" flag set on both my aion/ncsoft launcher and my hotkeynet shortcut and I don't even think about it anymore

ps: space bar and resizing still aren't working but (hint hint) I think freddie will soon find a way :-)

Has anyone figured out how to not make the unfocused copy FPS cap? it seems they render via a windows timer msg rather than a normal game loop when the window is in the background.

    thx!

Moorea notified me of these problems a few days ago and I've been working on them.

The resizing problem is partly solved already. I'll look at it some more today.

Just for the record Freddie is doing an amazing job supporting free software and AION has been available without pesky gameguard for a grand total of 4 days so it is normal there are still rough edges when boxing it and it's already amazing hotkeynet works as it does (as you can see in the clip above)

    Hi Friends,

Thank you for all of your support. Judging by the great responses here, it looks like I should be able to get this stuff working tonight.

I also sent a letter to a few folks at NCSoft asking about the 2 instance maximum limit (per computer) on Aion. In my memo, I explained to them how the hard-limit on the number of Aion instances on 1-pc is rather limiting. We'll see if NCSoft will be sympathetic to our plight or if 2 Aion clients is the maximum per computer. I know that it must be a very busy time for NCSoft right now, but I hope that someone from their team will reply. I'll post my findings as I receive them.

    Thanks all,
    Rin
