Default Looking for an alternative paladin build

Seeing that I allready quit Aion and updating WoW atm makes me come back to something I have been thinking about for a while now.

I run a pala, 3 elemental, resto shaman setup. When I pull packs I start spamming my dps key for the shamans as well. I never had any problem as long as I start with enough single target dps at first. A while ago I updated my shamans dps macro and I started to overnuke allready because of the dps increase.

Now in the patch that I`m downloading I`m getting nerfed.
Rightgeous fury only gives 80% threath. This could be a problem since I barely managed to keep agro. (don`t want to threath up 10seconds before I nuke so)

Got me thinking. What if I try a more dps focussed build. My paladin has decend gear and my healer with 2.3k healing has no problems healing at all. Usually the paladins own hot + ES is enough.

So I came up with something like this:
    http://www.wowhead.com/?talent#sZx0tA0ugMRfuZeb0tMIzb

Usually I have nearly every point in prot. Don`t know if this is a retard build or something normal but I think it may give some extra dps and therefore give more threath.

I was thinking of going more into the Retri tree but then I would lose touched by light which is kinda needed I think.

Anyone any thoughts? I will experiment with it once I get updated.

Sorry the build is terrible, you skip over some of our best threat abilities - I would not normally advocate skipping certain core talents however if you absolutely do not need them (ie you never need healing) then I would go with something like this:

    http://www.wowhead.com/?talent#sMZV0tA0kghsIufzeb0x0c

(chosen not to take spiritual attunement as you are not getting healed)

BTW you should not be having threat problems unless your tank is severly undergeared. You may want to post your paladin macro so we can see if that is where your problem lies (ie if highest threat abilities are being used first)

Another trick I like to use is to pull with hand of reckoning and use Avengers shield when the mob is running towards you. This way you get 2 instant ranged damaging attacks so your other dps should not be able to pull off you.

Think full prot is still a good way to go.

    I tryed this:
    http://www.wowhead.com/?talent#sZx0xA0bZgf0tMIzudIcsu

Full retri build. Could tank heroics very easy but the dps stays around 1200. So lower then prot.

Prot pallies didn't get nerfed. Some of the mechanics changed. Strength is more important, and useful, than before.

Actually their threat did get nerfed

Righteous Fury: The bonus threat from Holy spells caused by this talent has been reduced from 90% to 80%.

TbtL will probably result in a small threat nerf too depending on your Stam:Str Ratio

    • Touched by the Light: This talent now provides 20/40/60% of the paladin's strength as spell power instead of 10/20/30% of the paladin's stamina.

To me it feels that since these changes my agro on pull got higher. I don`t lose agro anymore.

Tho I`m still experimenting with some builds.

I tryed to tank heroic with http://www.wowhead.com/?talent#sZx0xA0bZgf0tMIzudIcsu this one and aI completed it. Tho the dps was half of what prot gives.

Another thing that proofs that paladins are easy They can even tank in they`re dps spec. Without trouble if I may say so.

If you're having trouble with threat, try pulling with the pally donkey punch - i.e. Hand of Reckoning followed immediately by Avenger's shield. This will give you a quick lead on threat over your alts.

That is my point. Threat didn't get nerfed. Two abilities got nerfed, but others got buffed.

I run the same group makeup. Prot pally, 3x elem shaman, resto shaman and use this build for my pally. http://talent.mmo-champion.com/?pala...L1,Hpw3-,10482

I just pull with avenger's shield and then hammer of righteousness and my shamans never pull aggro. I tank using seal of corruption.

What build did you use before that you lost threat to the shaman?

    What Seal are you using?

If you didn't have hammer of the righteous in that build either, I suspect that was a big part of the problem. Especially if your not using seal of Vengeance. Remember that your hammer is going to apply that seal to all the people you bonk with it.

Are you opening with mastery -> (shock|avenger) -> (lava burst|idle) -> (chain lightning|idle)? That is a long time for some mobs to walk to the paladin and if a mob that isn't your primary target resists or is loose in a pack that chain lightning spam is going to cause some problems.

Perhaps like another person said, open with hand -> shield or exorcism -> shield -> hand if you want to be fancy.

    Edit:

Is this a similar build to what you were using? http://www.wowhead.com/?talent#sZA0tAbzMGsIubZEo0x0Iz
