    Default Realization on Hit Rating.

I just thought I would share this.

I had only looked up hit cap numbers for my solo mage awhile ago This number for a draenei mage is 342 for raid bosses. I had never looked up the cap for heroics. The cap is TINY! I had no idea. That same mage needs only 53 hit rating to be capped for heroics.

I was just shocked because I assumed the number would have been much higher. I'm tempted to drop some rating now on my boxing team for other stats but I guess I'll still aim for raid cap just in case.

Just wanted to share how incredibly low that numbers are if you plan to only run heroics.

    Yes there really is.

You need 6% spell hit to have a 100% hit rate vs lvl 82 mobs. You need 17% spell hit against lvl 83 mobs.

As draenai mages already have 4% hit (assuming not arcane here as they have 7%) You only need 2% hit which is 26.23*2 = 52.46 hit rating (rounded up to 53)

vs lvl 83 you would need 13% from gear so 26.23*13 = 341.02 (rounds up to 342)

Yes, I realize that a Draenei mage (frostfire) has a few +hit talents (Heroic Presence:1% and Precision:3%). I was just using it as an example of the difference in hit needed from lvl 82 to lvl 83 mobs. It turns out it's around a 288ish hit rating difference.

Yup, that's how I figure also. I'm at work so I cannot link the wowwiki/spellhit page that goes through all the math.

For months I have carried extra gear for my 'Heroic' set, which dumped +hit for things like crit and SP. I used this and found a modest decrease in the amount of time heroics took to complete.

I even took this 1 step further, and said "Hey, raid trash is only level 82, too!" So I started wearing this set for trash as well.

But the realization came; that for the miniscule improvement I was observing was completely wiped out by that one time I didnt change back to my full hit gear, and only saw miss miss miss on my logs.

Maybe you'll have better luck than me, and your theories are accurate, but I failed when I tried to implement them.
