Default How attached to animals are you???

Well this week lost both of my Siamese cats. They were 18 years old and idc what anyone says when you have animals that have been with you since before you were in high school it sucks. So i just want to see how many of you out there have been really attached to an animal and have even if your an adult have choked up a little bit maybe even teared up when you had to put that prefect pet down. To me they are a family member been with you for almost 2 decades.
They say spiders have 8 legs well i guess im a rare and unimaginable specimen. Ive got 9 legs and my web comes from that 9th leg. HaHa.

Hey mate, my sympathies are with you. I am a vet so this is something I see people deal with every day and let me assure you, it is perfectly normal to feel the way you are feeling. I have 2 cats of my own at the moment; my wife and I refer to them as our furry children. They are young and healthy at this stage, but I know that down the track we will have to make some very difficult decisions.

It is one of the hardest things to do as a vet, but at the same time I think being able to ease the passing of a cherished pet it is one of the nicest things we are able to do for them. One of my favourite things to see however is when I see an owner whose pet I have put to sleep previously returns to the clinic with a new pet after some time. Many people swear when they are going through the pain of euthanasing their pet that they will never have another, but more often than not, they eventually return and develop another new and different bond with a different individual that becomes as special as their previous pet. All I can say is I hope this can happen for you, because as you obviously know it is one of the most amazing things you can experience.

    Cheers

You have my sympathy. Now get down to the pound/rescue/cats' and dogs' home and get some replacements to fill the void, and quickly too, please.

Last Christmas morning we lost one of our cats, she was 19, about to be 20. I'm such a sucker for animals it's a terrible loss no matter how long they've been with you. My sympathies, I know what you're going through

I care more about animals than I do most people. I've 3 cats and I don't know what I'd do if I lost them. 2 of them are from the same litter and I lost their brother years ago to cancer. I mourned him as much as I mourned any other family member I've lost.

And who's to say they aren't family members? About 6 years ago, this fluffy black cat showed up at my parents' house. They had recently lost a cat and had no interest in adopting strays, but this cat just wouldn't leave. Every time they stepped outside or came home from work, there she'd be, not looking for food or to get in, just looking for love. Every time I go back home, I expect that "Spooky-kitty" had moved on and gotten a nice warm bed at a neighbor's house, but nope. She's still there. More than a few people have told my mother that that's no plain old cat, it's my uncle {her younger brother, he died of AIDS my senior year of high school}. Maybe, maybe not, but I like to think so.

I'm the same way, dunno if that makes me a bad person or not. I treat my rottie like one of my family members. I dread thinking of the day when she won't be there to greet me with her smiling face.

    Sorry for your loss

I was divorcing a wench many moons ago and walking away from my house and truck, etc. Then she decides she'll keep my dog too. So I went to court.

Condolences, SS. I lost my best bud about 3 years ago ("Puss"). You just can't beat a cat for pure love (when they want to give it to you, it's usually on their terms). And spooon, I know how you feel about that. I broke up with a psycho girlfriend about 3 months ago and had to let our pugs stay with her just to get away from her. I miss them like you wouldn't believe.

I'm sorry to hear that you lost your cats.
I love animals myself, however I became allergic to cats when in my teens, so it has been a while since I had a cat.
But I know how you feel, when my neighbor's dog died I was devastated.
