Actually to get initial aggro when starting things off from a non-tank toon, I'm just casting a regrowth of myself, switch into bear, hit enrage and turn in, run the dps guy back as fast as possible then start the healing

That's regrowth aggro seems to be enough to keep the initial set of adds on the tank before I start swiping.

Funny thing….I just remembered that I have (3) other characters on my main account 80 DK, 73 hunter and 72 Druid….LOL they have not been running this event due to my ignorance, and having them shelved for the last several months while leveling up my team. Starting tonight there will be (8) attempts at the mounts….

    /facepalm

You won't be able to start the event on a sub-75 toon though, the quest to insult Coren is a 75+ quest only. The pre-quest to get you there is a 65+, but won't let you actually start the event.

FWIW, you can aggro the first adds a second or two before the boss. They definitely attack me or are beating on totems, etc before he attacks.

This is right, but you don't *need* defense. pure AGI will come out better, or even dodge if you can get it.
Isnt that at 80 only? I swear npcs crit more the lower level you are compared to them. I'll have to check it out.

edit: Ya, EJ confirms that mobs gain .3% per level difference. So Coren is boss mob level I believe (83 for calculations) so against him you need 5.6 + 2 x .3= 6.2 so a 78 with feral talents has a 0.2% chance of getting crit. Not a huge diff, but its still there.

Coren is not a boss level mob, he's a straight level 80 elite mob, so will be hitting me much like an 82 (heroic boss) would hit an 80. Meaning even less crit immunity is needed, actually

I definitely didn't take any crits from him, the highest hit I've taken is around 5500 from his disarm thing, and maybe 2-4k from a regular hit.

Aye it is based on being level 80, and you are correct but at that small of a difference pure AGI or pure Dodge will come out better than finding defense leather at this level.

    my tactic for Coren;

My DK casts Dnd before any alt insults him to gain initial aggro. I don't run back with the alt but i leave him in the corner on the boss side. The other 3 alts are spread out across the width of the room, to avoid the drill dmg.

When the fight starts, my tank has the boss + all the adds on him. I start hitting my dps + tanking macro ( 5 in my bar ), I keep up all the aoe spells to keep aggro on the tank.
Earth shield + riptide and the occasional lesser healing wave keeps up the tank without much trouble.
If a partymember gets damage, i select him for a brief second, hit "7", and they all cast chainheal on my target i selected. After the cast they go back to my target to continue dps.

All in all it takes 15 mins to do it 5 times. Having a decent geared tank is half the trouble there.

1 swift ram and 1 kodo so far 3 to go
    Azjol Nerub ( EU )

Tryxxa , Tryxxe, Tryxxi, Tryxxo, Tryxxu => shamans @ 80
Deafknight @ 80 ==> my tank on demand

HC's cleared: Nexus, Utgarde Keep, CoT:CoS, Gundrak, Drak'tharon Keep, Trial of The Crusader,

Did him another five times on my team.

I position my bear in front of him. The team mid room.
I hit enrage, let my slave talk to the boss and run him through the bear and turn to face the bear.

    Swipe spam.

Yesterday I had my son's pally as healer. This time we ran it with my son as ret. He would pick up any adds on my shaman and blitz them.

I found the tank didn't need a heal the entire fight.

We got 5 stamina trinkets. Luckily the first drop was a different stam trinket to the one the druid had.
Now my shaman all have stam trinkets to help out in pvp.

Looking forward to another go at it tomorrow.
