Computer temperatures?

My room is hotter than than 40c. I would try to keep the cpu under around 60c and the case/mb under 50c. Not that 50c is too hot but then your cpu wont cool as well. The best cpu fans/heatsinks can only keep the cpu at about 10c above the internal case temperature. So keeping you case cooler means a cooler cpu and more overclocking if you wish.

I was having problems with my PC crashing. I *thought* it was my CPU.

My CPU Q9550 was running at 105 C. I levelled all the way to 80 with it running this hot. Chatting to Ooga he suggested the stock heatsink/fan was terrible and after 6-8 months got a cake load of dust inbetween it. Sure enough pulled it out and a massive thick layer of dust had built up.

Bought a Zalman 9700 fan. Now it peaks out at 52C running 5 clients.

I still get pink/purple/green/blue screens of death which doing alot of reading is related to my GTX280. Apparently alot of people running them have problems. I cleaned out its cooling fan and it sits at about 65 under heavy load but the crashing is just anytime the 3D part of the GPU is initialized - ie Windows 7 Aero or if I manage to get into WoW and leave Dalaran it might do it.

After a few crashes its fine though and then will run solid for a week or so straight.

I am strongly thinking about getting a 295 or a ATI card but not sure if there is a batch of new cards coming out soon to hold off and wait.

I've got an i7 system with a GTX280 also.
My CPU runs around 45, my hard drive runs around 35 and my video card runs around 55. Completely stable, but damn does it heat up the room quick.

70-80c is normally about the limit that you want to push toward before you are getting limited on your overclock. Anything in the 30-50c range is pretty good actually. Its once you get over 90-100c that you have start worrying - could actually start doing permanant damage.

there's more than one temp to check in a computer
usually the gfx is the first to overheat when everything's properly installed

My GPU is up to 85 celcius sometimes, but thats mainly because i lost the controller for my big CPU fan. Yes, it does crash sometimes after i lost this thing, but oh well....gotta buy a new one soon.
