Coren Direbrew - brewfest 2009 - doable at 78?

I've gotten my 5 druid group to 78 now, largely in part to AV since I got tired of drop quests in Zul Drak around 74...

Is the Brewfest 2009 boss (Coren Direbrew) doable with a pack of 78's? I of course run one a resto, and one as feral tank. Tank has 18000hp currently, 30% dodge and 18k armor or so. The 3 dps moonkin do about 1100dps in dungeons currently, and the healer never runs out of mana...

I remember doing Coren single boxed last year at 70 and had some tough times when not in decently geared groups at 70, doing it at 69 was a wipefest.

I'd be spacing my guys out a bit, hoping to stay in Wild Growth range still though, curious if I'm going to just get one shot by him though.

Cool, I should actually be def capped for him though as a druid tank. I have, what, 6% crit reduction from the talent (druid tanks being totally OP'd for leveling...) plus a few extra defense from some random +def stats on my gear.

I'll give it a try tonight and see how it goes, will post back with some results

I would try it. I'll be hard because of the +def cap issue, but you should be able to pull it off with some practice.

Druids are not affected by a defense cap if they have 3/3 Survival Instincts. The issue he may run into though, is just lack of gear. I'd definitely try it though get the full PvP set on your bear for the best amount of stam and agi

This is right, but you don't *need* defense. pure AGI will come out better, or even dodge if you can get it.

Well, it's possible, I killed him 1/5 with heavy casualties! Got a stam trinket, hurray!

My first attempt was a total clownshow, I somehow lost Swipe from my bar and didn't notice it until I pulled (and lost all aoe threat without Swipe), immediate wipe, much cursing was had.

Second attempt I had everyone out at max range, that was fatal that time because I couldn't get in fast enough to pull mobs off of the healer, healer died, wipe.

Third attempt I downed him, all 5 guys were alive until he had like 20k life left, I was all like "Wow this is going smooth, sweet". Suddenly my tank got kegged and he dropped three of the other four guys before I could taunt him back. Survived with my tank and one dps, woo! This try I had everyone in like a semi-circle in the middle of the room and I tanked him close to them, minimal movement to pickup adds, enough room to get away when he disarms.

Fourth and fifth attempts I screwed up the placement, healer went down, b-res'ed, died again. In attempt 5 I had lost all my toons except my tank, had only 6k life left on him and I had 12k left. Then I dropped way down, he went down to like 200 life, I died...I cried a little hehe

At least I know it's possible, though it was a hectic click fest and my healer's mana couldn't keep up, had to innervate each attempt.

Their gear is really crap though, just barely breaking 1000SP and only like 15% crit, no haste, 50 or so hit, etc. Ouch. I'll level some more and things should go smoother, just gotta do these attempts while he's here, the trinkets are too good to pass up.

I would say very much yes, and its worth a few attempts.

I would say positioning is the biggest issue to work through. Your likely going to have a lot of adds and movement as his 200k goes slowly it seems.

The whirlwind thing the boss does is what will kill all your guys if they are too close to that its game over.

I would have the non tank characters bunched up on the far wall from the entrance and facing Ribbly Scewspigot so they cannot get knocked anywhere out of control. This is a problem for starting the event on non-tank attempts, but manageable.

In situations where like this where the characters get tossed around, I have them re-follow the tank and then almost immediately stop to re-orientate and then usually walk the mob with the tank.

If all the mobs are on your tank are you able to keep up with the adds with swipe spamming alone? Or do you have to moonspam a bit to get through them? Perhaps a crafted macro to do this rapidly would be useful.

put them in the allcove (is that the right word?) and just nuke zie boss, he doesnt hit hard, and the adds dont really do either, just taunt the extra ones on your tank and voila.

Is there a benefit to putting them in the alcove, like do they not get drilled in there, or do they take less time flying up from the drill or something?

Certainly I can see putting them at range would be beneficial for avoiding Coren's disarm spinny thing, but a single target taunt doesn't seem to cut it for keeping adds off of the healer. Kept getting two or more on healer even when largely doing swipe damage on the tank.

I did find something helpful, in that if you have no free inventory slots the lady that throws you the beer which you must immediately drink, can't. So she'll just hang out and do no damage when she's up, pretty handy! I just split up all of my cloth stacks and water stacks until my toons had no bag space, hehe, sweet.

I was considering moving swipe over to my main dps key just to ensure all adds were on the tank properly, but that would kill the tank's dps, which is comparable to my moonkin's dps usually. So I may just modify the tank's normal macro to include a swipe every few hits or so...and I definitely have to watch closer for his disarm, that is a major contributor for how much mana my healer was using just healing up the tank after that each time with inefficient big heals.

More attempts today, even if I can only down him 20% of the time it's still worth it really...just hope for a remote so I don't have to fly/run back there all the time. Nice that they made the summoning stone work for high level toons here though.

well, the main reason is that they dont get bumped all over the place, gives you more time to focus on tanking. Tbh dont do aoe, just try focussing on Coren and not on the adds then a taunt and a swipe should be sufficient for the tank?

How do you handle the turn in with your Druid team…

With Pally main I have found this event pretty trivial, and my team is FAR from being considered geared. Dropping a consecration prior to other team members handing in the quest allows my tank to maintain full agro.

Do you cast hurricane, hand in then switch to bear?
I use to do this when I ran a bear tank prior to multiboxing for ranged AOE pulls. If you put your team in the corner near him; put your tank at the other end near the alcove at max AOE range; click on quest giver to turn in, drop AOE then click to start event, then all agro should be on the MT.

I liked this event last year; looking forward to the Pumpkin King this year, his mount has haunted me prior years loosing on the roll ….NO MORE….

Do not hurricane just to aggro them all. Put your bear in between the initial adds and corin. and turn in the quest, hit enrage, and start spamming swipe. I tank the entire fight just by spamming swipe to pick up loose adds.
